Things haven’t been going so smoothly for Xbox recently. The poorly received release of vampiric shooter Redfall highlighted what many perceive to be serious problems with Xbox’s exclusive titles. Despite coming from Deathloop developer Arkane, Redfall was panned for launching with a plethora of bugs, lacklustre visuals, and boring mechanics. Now, Xbox Head Phil Spencer is joining the Xcast podcast to discuss the current state of Xbox.
Posting to Twitter, Parris (@vicious696) wrote: “TBH this was one of the more important interviews I’ve ever been a part of truly appreciate @XboxP3 [Phil Spencer] for the candor and transparency on the current state of Xbox”.
Gaming journalist Greg Miller teased a special episode of the podcast for listeners. “We’re all gathered around the office TV and listening to the Xcast interview @XboxP3. You’re in for a special episode tomorrow,” he said.
Xbox fans are optimistic that Spencer will shed some light on the perceived issues with Xbox and its game lineup. “I really hope we got into it cause there is a lot of concern especially for us long time Xbox fans about the direction at all levels of Xbox for me to say I’m unhappy would be an understatement,” wrote @76eaglesfan76.
Over on Reddit, the community wasn’t so hopeful. “Pacify the masses, Phil. God knows it has worked before,” wrote u/Bogusky. Another user said, “how a software professional is so terrible at delivering software is well beyond me.”
The two biggest upcoming releases for the Xbox Series X are Turn 10’s Forza Motorsport (without a confirmed release date) and Bethesda’s Starfield (which has been delayed to 6 September). A Starfield deep-dive event is currently pencilled in for 11 June.
Presumably, Phil Spencer will address Xbox’s upcoming releases, the issues the console is facing in 2023, and what fans can expect heading into 2024. The latest episode of the Xcast podcast featuring the interview with Phil Spencer will arrive today, 4 May.
