Fans of professional wrestling aren’t the most agreeable bunch. From arguing about whether WWE or AEW is better to falling out over which wrestlers deserve a push, the online discourse gets pretty toxic. However, if there’s one thing all fans can agree on, it’s that wrestling wouldn’t be the same without the music. Now, nightclubs are capitalising on the popularity of wrestling theme songs and running dedicated nights for the sounds of sports entertainment.
For the uninitiated, every professional wrestler has their own theme song. They play when wrestlers walk to the ring, win a match, finish an in-ring promo, or interrupt other superstars.
Theme songs are a key part of every wrestler’s “gimmick”, which is a word used to refer to their in-ring persona and overall character. The songs are made to specifically suit the gimmicks. Eventually, theme songs become synonymous with their wrestler and, if popular enough, can remain unchanged for decades.
Examples of highly recognisable and popular wrestling theme songs include Stone Cold Steve Austin’s “I Won’t Do What You Tell Me”, John Cena’s “My Time is Now”, The Undertaker’s “Rest in Peace”, and Hulk Hogan’s “Real American”. Of course, their are countless other examples but I’d be here forever if I was to list them all.
Theme songs attract millions of streams every single day and some are actually great songs in their own right, regardless of their connection to pro wrestling. Given that there are innumerable wrestling fans worldwide, it makes sense that a club would decide to run a night specifically for them and their favourite tunes. Well, that’s exactly what one nightclub event company has done – and wrestling fans across social media think it’s a great idea.
What is the wrestling nightclub?
The “wrestling nightclub” refers to videos of a specific nightclub event that has gone viral on social media for hosting wrestling-themed parties.
During these events, the club plays theme songs associated with professional wrestlers.
It first attracted significant attention online on 7th January 2024 when X user @ageofrealest shared a video of the club event from TikTok and wrote: “No way they got wrestling nightclubs now”.
The post has attracted over 9K likes and been viewed more than half a million times. One user commented “I don’t go clubbing but that is cool”, while another said “that’s insane I LOVE IT”. Similarly, user @SamirBHnGeek said “this might finally convince me to get to clubbing”.
In the video, a huge crowd of party-goers can be seen dancing to a number of well-known wrestling tracks. Other videos of the club event have been shared widely on TikTok, with many attracting thousands – and sometimes millions – of views.
Where is the wrestling nightclub?
The wrestling nightclub events aren’t held by one specific club. They are actually hosted by Remix Rumble at different clubs in Toronto and Philadelphia.
The idea for the events appears to have come from an older viral video of a wrestling-themed club night in August 2023. Shared by Barstool Sports, the video showed an event where Edge’s theme song “Metalingus” was playing.
In Remix Rumble’s first TikTok, its creator – rapper Roheezy – said “I’m gonna have to make this happen” and seemingly set about planning its launch for January 2024 to coincide with the Royal Rumble.
According to the Remix Rumble TikTok account, upcoming events are scheduled for 26th January in Toronto and 4th April in Philadelphia. In a comment on TikTok, Remix Rumble also said an event may be planned for London for AEW’s All In 2024: “Working on a show for AEW All In week in London!”
Wrestling fans interesting in attending one of Remix Rumble’s events can find ticket information on its official Instagram page.
What theme songs do they play?
Remix Rumble – AKA the “wrestling nightclub” – plays a variety of theme songs at its events. This includes CM Punk’s “Cult of Personality”, The Uso’s “Done With That (Day One Remix)”, and Sami Zayn’s “Worlds Apart”.
To help prevent attendees from getting bored of endless wrestling anthems, Remix Rumble mixes things up with popular non-wrestling music as well. In a TikTok comment responding to someone asking what sort of music to expect, Remix Rumble said: “I’d say 50% wrestling theme songs mashed up with other popular music as well!”
