We learned in September that a Marvel’s Wolverine PS5 game is in development. It’s safe to say it’s one of PlayStation’s most anticipated titles, particularly after the roaring success of Marvel’s Spider-Man. The character of Wolverine is also one of Marvel’s most popular. He played an integral part in the X-Men film series and received a number of standalone movies.
But what do we actually know about the Marvel Wolverine PS5 game? There are likely a number of big questions on gamers’ minds ahead of its release. So, let’s get into it – here’s the Wolverine rundown you’ve been wanting…
Wolverine PS5 game release date
Undoubtedly, the first thing most people will be asking is “when will Wolverine PS5 come out?”. But we don’t know anything right now. It’s worth noting that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is set to be released in 2023. And given that Sony gave that game a release year but didn’t provide one for Wolverine, it’s likely that Spider-Man 2 will launch first. With that being said, 2024 seems like a reasonable guess for the Wolverine PS5 release.
Who is making Marvel’s Wolverine?
Marvel’s Wolverine is being developed by Insomniac Games, the same studio behind 2018’s Spider-Man. They also made the 2020 game Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. So, it seems Wolverine is in safe and capable hands. Insomniac are also well-known for both the Ratchet & Clank and Resistance series.
Is Wolverine a PS5 exclusive?
Is the Wolverine game a PS5 exclusive? Yes – Sony have confirmed it will only be released for their latest console. That means you’ll need a PS5 to play it, obviously. While a Wolverine PS4 version would be nice for anyone who doesn’t own a PS5, the game is still far from release. So everyone who wants a PS5 for Wolverine should be able to get one by the time it comes out.

Who is writing Marvel’s Wolverine?
Now, this is a really interesting question. Do you remember Spec Ops: The Line? It was released in June 2012 for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, and was a game lots of people overlooked at the time. It seemed like a fairly generic third-person military shooter on the surface and its gameplay wasn’t anything special. However, to the surprise of many, it actually featured an incredibly impactful and emotional story. It forced players to question their enjoyment of war in video games. And players also had to make a number of tough ethical decisions during its campaign.
Because of its story, Spec Ops: The Line gained a cult following and now one of its writers – Walt Williams – is leading on the narrative for Marvel’s Wolverine. PlayStation’s Herman Hulst previously said the Wolverine game would feature an “emotional and suspenseful journey”, which certainly makes Walt Williams sound like the right person for the job! So, we’ll be getting the Spec Ops: The Line/Wolverine mash-up we never knew we wanted…

Do we know who will be the Wolverine PS5 voice actor? Unfortunately not. And before you ask, it’s unlikely to be Hugh Jackman (although we can always hope!). We don’t know who will make up the rest of the cast either, or what other characters will be included in the game.
Wolverine PS5 open world
Is Wolverine PS5 game open world? As you might’ve guessed by now, Insomniac and Sony have been very tight-lipped about the game to date. The open world gameplay was certainly well-suited to Marvel’s Spider-Man, but Insomniac may wish to go for a more traditional linear approach in Wolverine. After all, Wolverine can’t swing from tall buildings like Spidey can. However, there’s still every chance the game will feature open-world elements. But we just don’t know any specific details about gameplay yet.
Wolverine PS5 rating
What will the game be rated? Obviously, lots of people will be hoping for gritty and brutal action and more adult-orientated themes. With that being said, a lower age rating also means broader appeal and a bigger potential audience. But we don’t know what the game’s rating is yet. We’ll let you know when we do, though.
