I first wrote about The Day Before back in May 2021 a few months after it was first announced. Since then, the zombie survival MMO has been delayed numerous times. Consequently, many fans have begun to speculate if it will ever materialise at all. Still, its promising concept continues to entice gamers. And console owners are asking “will The Day Before be on PS5 and Xbox?”

Before we get into that, let’s recap the latest developments.

The Day Before is a zombie survival MMO (massively multiplayer online) game from developers FNTASTIC. It has been touted as a cross between The Last Of Us and The Division. The game was initially unveiled back in January 2021 with an impressive trailer.

At first, it was slated for release in Q2 2021. Since then, it has been pushed back a number of times. Most recently, it was set to launch in March 2023; however, its launch has shifted once again – this time to November.

Parallel to the latest delay was The Day Before‘s unexpected removal from the Steam storefront. As one of the most wish-listed games on the platform, this was concerning for fans.

It has since emerged that a trademark issue caused its disappearance from Steam and the subsequent delay.

Apparently, the developers and/or publishers failed to register “The Day Before” trademark prior to the game’s announcement and were beaten to the punch.

Nevertheless, fans were still expecting a ten-minute gameplay trailer that had been promised. This, too, was delayed. However, it finally emerged on 2 February. But initial reactions were less than positive.

But what did the latest gameplay trailer show? And will The Day Before be on PS5 at launch?

The Day Before New Gameplay Trailer

After much speculation about The Day Before‘s future, FNTASTIC reassured fans by dropping the hotly anticipated new gameplay trailer on 2 February. You can watch it here.

The trailer consists of ten minutes worth of gameplay that shows running, shooting, modding a gun… And not a lot else.

Understandably, fans were underwhelmed by the long-awaited trailer.

The world feels empty. It’s devoid of life and atmosphere. There’s a handful of easily-dispatched zombies – but there’s no tension and little horror.

Disappointingly, we didn’t get to see zombie hordes or instances of player interaction. And, more generally, the game doesn’t seem all that immersive thanks to the absence of music, dialogue, and ambient noise.

Thankfully, the new trailer maintained The Day Before‘s pretty post-apocalyptic visuals and the world itself looks great. So, there’s hope yet.

But it’s easy to see why fans are becoming increasingly frustrated with the constant delays and disappointing trailers. The Day Before remains firmly in the realm of “Let’s wait and see.”

Will The Day Before Be On PS5 and Xbox?

One thing The Day Before has going for it is its promising concept. And that, combined with the exciting early trailers, catapulted it to becoming one of the most wish-listed games on Steam.

But the game’s appeal hasn’t been limited to PC players. PlayStation and Xbox owners are also interested in The Day Before and want to know if it will be coming to consoles on release.

Will The Day Before be on PS5 and Xbox? The Day Before is a PC-exclusive game. It has not been announced for PS5 or Xbox.

Many fans had hoped the new trailer would contain information about a console release. But it didn’t. So, unless a last minute announcement is made, it is almost certain that the game won’t be available on PS5 or Xbox at launch.

This is bound to be disappointing for PS5 and Xbox players who don’t own a PC. However, it’s not uncommon for games that do well on PC to later be ported over to consoles.

Currently, the only confirmed way to play The Day Before at launch will be to buy it though Steam.
