The Season 4 Reloaded mid-season update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and Warzone has landed and it’s brought a host of changes with it including the destruction of Popov Power in Urzikstan.

The DNA bomb which destroyed the plant and the resulting fallout has resulted in mutations across Warzone and Modern Warfare III and has given Operators unique abilities.

Alongside new abilities, weapons, and game modes (like Mutation Resurgence Quads), players will have noticed the DNA samples that now appear on fallen enemies (in MWIII and MWZ) and in loot boxes (in Warzone). But what exactly do they do and why should you bother to collect them?

DNA samples in Warzone, explained

The DNA samples are part of the Altered Strain event in Season 4 Reloaded. For the event, players must find and collect as many DNA samples as they can in exchange for in-game rewards such as XP tokens and weapon cosmetics.

Players who complete all four sample collection Mastery challenges will unlock the Mastery award: the Strands and Slaughter battle rifle which is based on the SOA Subverter. This unique weapon comes with a cool Altered Strain themed camo featuring a double helix down the side of the weapon.

Among the other rewards are Double Weapon XP tokens, Double Battle Pass XP tokes, Altered Strain themed weapon stickers, and some creepy mutated charms.

The Altered Strain event ends on Wednesday, 24 July. So, you have plenty of time to get collecting those DNA samples.
