The Conjuring universe began in 2013 with the eponymous movie. The main series focusses on the paranormal investigations of Ed and Lorraine Warren. However, a number of spin-off films have been produced which explore the stories of entities the Warren’s encountered outside of the primary movies. These characters include Annabelle, La Llorona, and, of course, the Demon Nun. But which The Conjuring film has the Nun in it?
The reason fans are asking this question is simple. While the character has received its own feature film, its introduction takes place in the main series.
The Nun was released in 2018 and received mostly negative reviews from critics. Despite this, it is the highest-grossing film in The Conjuring universe.
A trailer for the sequel – The Nun II – dropped on 06 July 2023. The film will be released on 08 September 2023 and is set four years after the previous movie. Taissa Farmiga is set to return as Sister Irene, who is now living in France. She encounters the Nun again, this time at a boarding school.
Fans will know that the Nun is a manifestation of the demon Valak. But if you want to learn more about the character and its connection to the Warrens, it’s worth watching The Conjuring film in which it first appears.

The Nun’s true form – Valak – is the primary antagonist of The Conjuring 2, with the Nun also appearing or being mentioned in The Conjuring, Annabelle: Creation, The Nun, and Annabelle Comes Home.
The Conjuring 2 provides significant context for the Nun in The Conjuring universe and explains the character’s connection to the Warrens.
Because of this, The Nun is a considered a prequel to The Conjuring 2 specifically. It takes place in Romania in 1952 and explores the Nun’s origins.
