Call of Duty: Vanguard is here and players are getting stuck into its multiplayer. And we’re enjoying it so far (as we mentioned on Instagram). But we can’t wait to see what Vanguard brings to Warzone in the form of the new Caldera map. After a somewhat underwhelming attempt to integrate Black Ops Cold War with CoD‘s battle royale, we’re hoping Activision do better this time round. So, when is Caldera coming out and what do you need to know about it?

When is Caldera coming out? – Warzone Pacific release date

Warzone Caldera map release date is Thursday 9th December 2021 for all players. It comes just one day after the Call of Duty: Vanguard Season One release date – Wednesday 8th December 2021. If you purchase Vanguard prior to the start of Season One, you will get 24-hour early access to Warzone Pacific. That means you’ll be able to play the new map early on Wednesday 8th December 2021.

Is Warzone being renamed?

Call of Duty: Warzone is getting a new name at the start of Vanguard Season One. But it’s not a huge change. It’s being renamed Warzone Pacific, befitting of the new Caldera map. Check out its new logo:

How big is Warzone Caldera map?

Activision say Caldera map size is “roughly the size of Verdansk”. Additionally, they’ve said it will feature “lush forests and rocky crags. White sand beaches and mysterious ruins. And a dormant volcano that towers over the 200-plus points of interest.” It’s also good to hear that Activision have apparently taken user feedback on board, explaining: “This new map is based on two years of research and listening to the community.”

Will Caldera replace Verdansk?

Yes – Verdansk will be removed from Warzone in favour of the new Pacific map. Activision confirmed it will replace it as part of Season One.

Activision also clarified that Warzone Pacific will be “built on the same tech and engine as Call of Duty: Vanguard“. This enables cross-play, cross-progression, cross-gen support, and support for new weapons.

Will old weapons carry over to Warzone Pacific?

You’re probably wondering, “will Modern Warfare and Cold War weapons be in Warzone Caldera map?” And the answer is “yes”. Activision are calling it “The Biggest Arsenal in Call of Duty.” Additionally, they’ve explained: “At the start of Season One, you can use 150+ weapons in Caldera within standard Battle Royale.” All your Operators, Calling Cards etc, will carry across to Warzone Pacific, too. Likewise, progress is synchronised across Warzone, Modern Warfare, Black Ops Cold War, and Vanguard. This includes player level and Battle Pass.

New modes in Warzone Pacific

Two new modes will be introduced in Warzone Pacific for Caldera. They are specifically designed to showcase Vanguard content and give players a chance to enjoy the new map without coming up against powerful legacy loadouts from the previous CoD games. That means only Vanguard weapons can be used. The new modes are Vanguard Royale mode and Vanguard Plunder mode (which will arrive a bit later). Biplanes and AA trucks will be usable in these modes and mix-up Warzone combat in exciting new ways.
