At last, the Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) trailer has arrived. There were times when it felt like it would never see the light of day. Hell, I even questioned if the game was being made after years of radio silence. But now we’ve seen it in the flesh in its debut trailer. Fans are already insanely hyped and that’s partially thanks to the dulcet tones of its background music. As a result, people are asking what the song in the GTA 6 trailer is.

The trailer has received an incredible response from excited gamers. As the latest instalment in one of gaming’s most beloved franchises, the interest in GTA 6‘s trailer was never in doubt. However, some had questioned whether it could ever live up to the impossible levels of anticipation.

Thankfully, the trailer is an absolute treat for loyal fans who have been waiting for ten years to see it. It showcased the gorgeously diverse setting of Leonida (based on Florida) and Vice City and gave us our first look at protagonists Lucia and her partner (presumed to be called Jason).

We also saw countless Leonida residents living their lives in Vice City, complete with packed beaches, busy streets, and much more. This was all enhanced by Rockstar Games’ choice of background music, which is already prompting discussion online. But what is the song called?

GTA 6 trailer song name and who sings it

The song in the GTA 6 trailer is “Love is a Long Road” by Tom Petty. It was included in his 1989 album Full Moon Fever.

“Love is a Long Road” is available to listen to on Spotify where it has been played 11.2 million times. With its inclusion in the reveal trailer, it is bound to attract plenty more listens in the coming weeks and months.

What does “Love is a Long Road” mean in the GTA 6 trailer?

It was certainly a fitting choice for the trailer as GTA 6 looks set to tell an emotional story revolving around the Bonnie and Clyde-esque relationship of its protagonists.

In the song, Petty sings about a complicated and apparently tumultuous relationship with “a girl I knew”. This appears to be used in the trailer to hint at the nature of Lucia and her boyfriend’s relationship. Lucia is the focus of the trailer, which suggests she may be the one influencing him into a life of crime.

This fits with Petty’s lyrics which state “She tried to make my world… The way she thought it should be”. Exactly what this means for their relationship is unclear until we see more of them. However, it seems things are bound to end in tragedy.

For now, we only have one limited interaction between them to base any theories on. In the trailer, Lucia can be heard telling her partner “The only way we’re gonna get through this is by sticking together – being a team.” She is then shown sitting on top of him and asking “Trust?”, to which he replies “Trust.” with a nod.

The trailer then cuts to a shot of them entering a store with guns drawn, seemingly ready to rob it.
