It has been 18 years since the release of The Matrix Revolutions. And fans are finally about to receive a new instalment in The Matrix movie series. The Matrix Resurrections will arrive in cinemas on 22nd December 2021. But a surprise leak last week suggested a new Matrix game is on the way, too. The leak pointed specifically to what could be a The Matrix Awakens game. And now a new teaser website has appeared online. So, what is The Matrix Awakens?
The Matrix Awakens game leaked
The initial leak came from Reddit’s r/GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit. According to a post on the subreddit by user the_andshrew, an image showing “an Unreal Engine 5 experience” called The Matrix Awakens surfaced on the PlayStation Network backend.
Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5 hasn’t featured in a released video game to date. So, The Matrix Awakens could be one of the first. Having said that, details on The Matrix Awakens are minimal. It might not be a video game at all – it seems very likely it could be some kind of interactive showcase for Unreal Engine 5. Its official website tells visitors to “Get ready for a glimpse into the future of interactive storytelling and entertainment with UE5.” Additionally, it’s reasonable to assume it’s a movie tie-in related to the upcoming The Matrix Resurrections film.

You’re probably wondering about The Matrix Awakens release date. When is The Matrix Awakens coming out? Right now, we don’t know. No information about its release window has been shared. Although The Matrix Awakens announcement is coming soon. VERY SOON. The Matrix Awakens will be revealed on 9th December 2021, according to its official teaser website.

The Matrix Awakens teaser trailer is available to watch now on YouTube. It’s only 15 seconds long. Most notably, we’re given a brief glimpse of Neo’s character model (Keanu Reeves) – and it looks almost life-like! If this is anything to go off, The Matrix Awakens is sure to have some impressive visuals.
You can realistically expect a full-length trailer to be shown when it’s revealed at The Game Awards.
What is The Matrix Awakens PS5 game about?
Right now, it’s unclear what The Matrix Awakens plot is. We don’t know if it’s an actual game or primarily some kind of interactive experience, so it’s hard to speculate what form its story will take at this stage. However, there’s a good chance it may be related to the plot of The Matrix Resurrections. We don’t know that for definite though.
