This guide answers “what is Invasion?” in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2022).
Call of Duty has been living in the shadow of the 2019 Modern Warfare reboot over the last two years. But that’s changed with the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II.
After early access for the game’s campaign, players are now jumping into Modern Warfare 2‘s multiplayer mode. And players are curious about the new features and changes they’re now seeing for the first time.
Infinity Ward has introduced a number of new game modes in Modern Warfare 2.
Knockout and Prisoner Rescue are new modes set in standard sized maps. However, the new match types don’t stop there.
Invasion is another new game mode that takes place in the larger Ground War maps.
Naturally, players want to know exactly what they are getting themselves in for before jumping into Invasion. And Modern Warfare 2 doesn’t do the best job of explaining it.
So, let’s answer “what is Invasion?” in Modern Warfare 2…
What Is Invasion in Modern Warfare 2?
As mentioned, Invasion takes place in large maps like Ground War.
Starting with 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Ground War features two teams of 32 players squaring off in a Domination-style match with five control points.
So, what is the difference between Ground War and Invasion?
What is Invasion in Modern Warfare 2? Invasion is a large Team Deathmatch mode featuring two teams of 40 made up of 20 players and 20 AI soldiers.
The aim of Invasion is to be the first team to 1500 points. Killing enemy players earns 5 points while defeating AI enemies earns just 1 point.
Killstreaks are only earned by defeating other players.
Like Ground War, Invasion features vehicles which players can drive. Later in the game, care packages containing killstreaks drop around the map.
