On 24 May, Konami announced the development of Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater, a remake of the acclaimed Metal Gear Solid 3. However, they also revealed that remasters of other classic Metal Gear games are in development as part of a “Master Collection”. But what is in Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection?
Before we get into that, it’s important to note that this isn’t a re-release of previous Metal Gear collections. Back in 2011, Konami released Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. That included Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2, MGS2, MGS3, and Peace Walker.
Just two years later in 2013, The Legacy Collection launched on the PS3 and included everything from HD Collection plus MGS4 and VR Missions. However, since then fans have been without a way to play their beloved Metal Gear games on subsequent consoles.
That’s set to change with the Master Collection. So, what is in the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection?
What is in Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection?
Master Collection Vol. 1 will contain Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.
The addition of “Vol. 1” at the end of the title indicates that a second volume of remastered games is planned. This is further hinted at on the official website where, under the list of games, it reads: “+? Stay tuned for more information”.
It is fair to speculate that volume 2 is likely to include Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Peace Walker, and Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain.
Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Release Date
Volume 1 of the MGS: Master Collection is scheduled to launch in Autumn/Fall 2023. That places its release date somewhere between September and November this year.
