Many players expected Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II to be a return to the dazzling heights of the original MW2. And while the 2022 title is certainly one of the better CoD games in recent times, it hasn’t quite scratched the itch for a classic CoD experience. Enter sm2. But what is Call of Duty sm2 and how do you play it?
Before we get into sm2, we should discuss the original Modern Warfare 2. Many still consider it the very best Call of Duty experience.
Its highly polished, fast-paced, and exhilarating multiplayer is still remembered fondly all these years after its launch. It came at a time when Call of Duty was still gaining in popularity following the successful releases of CoD 4 and World at War.
Modern Warfare 2 was in some ways the icing on the Call of Duty cake. It helped solidify the series as a must-purchase yearly game for many. And the franchise has never looked back.
Since 2009’s MW2, the series has faced ups and downs in terms of quality. And that’s where Call of Duty sm2 comes in. The team behind it are hoping to capture the magic of some of the greatest CoD games in one package.
So, that brings us to the big question. What is Call of Duty sm2?
What is Call of Duty sm2?
Call of Duty sm2 is a unique title. And it is very much separate from the Call of Duty franchise. However, it’s still a game many CoD fans will surely want to check out for a variety of enticing reasons.
What is Call of Duty sm2? sm2 is not an official Call of Duty game. The sm2 website describes it as a modded Call of Duty client based off the original Modern Warfare 2 engine.
According to its development team, it will include “all new features, weapons, perks, streaks, maps, QOL changes and more”. This is apparently being designed on top of “revamped gameplay to create a fun and balanced experience.”
The developers want to create their “dream Call of Duty game”, which they describe as “a mash-up of the best COD experiences in one place”.
Is sm2 Free?
There are no plans to charge for sm2. It is planned to be “completely free and player-friendly”. Players will also be pleased to hear that on-going updates factoring in community feedback will be a key part of the game.
How To Play Call of Duty sm2
sm2 isn’t a true Call of Duty game. However, the promise of an authentic CoD experience reminiscent of Modern Warfare 2 and other fan-favourite titles will surely inspire player interest.
So, how do you play Call of Duty sm2? sm2 is not currently available to play. It is still in development and no release date has been announced.
In sm2’s official FAQs, the team state they have “no f***ing clue” how interested players will be able to get their hands on the game just yet.
But if a full version of the game isn’t available, that must mean an Alpha or Beta version of sm2 are accessible to people who want to check it out – right? Well, unfortunately there are no Alpha or Beta versions available to play right now.
There aren’t any confirmed dates for these as of writing, however the team say an announcement will be made when they are eventually due to arrive.
CoD sm2 Platforms
When it comes to mods for any game, there are always people wondering if it will somehow make its way to consoles.
And the same can be said about sm2. Naturally, people want to know if they’ll ever see this “dream” Call of Duty experience on PlayStation or Xbox.
Currently, sm2 is planned as a PC-only game. There are zero plans to ever bring it to console due to a “gargantuan amount of roadblocks”.
While this may be disappointing for some, it certainly isn’t surprising.
However, the game will feature controller support and should work on most PCs. That’s because the game will likely only require a computer capable of running the original Modern Warfare 2. Which isn’t exactly the tallest order, for obvious reasons.
Call of Duty sm2 Gameplay
Although the game isn’t available to play right now, you can see it action in numerous gameplay videos on the official sm2 website.
You’ll also be able to see numerous fan-favourite weapons from the CoD franchise as well as numerous unique additions.
And best of all, you’ll catch a glimpse of some legendary multiplayer maps from games including CoD 4, MW2, MW3, CoD: Online, Black Ops 1, and Black Ops 2.
