The latest update for Call of Duty: Warzone arrives on 14 June. Season 4 is bringing a lot of new and exciting features to the game including a new map – Vondel. With the new map comes the need for players to change up their play style while they adjust to unfamiliar surroundings. A unique feature of Vondel is its dynamic fog system which can blanket the map at a moment’s notice. But how does the dynamic fog work?

Before we get into that, it’s important to note that Vondel sits between Ashika Island and Al Mazrah in terms of size. This medium scale map will initially play host to the Resurgence and DMZ game modes before hosting Battle Royale later on in the season.

Dynamic fog will be present in all three of these modes; however, its implementation will be different for each. This means that players will have a different experience in Vondel depending on the game they play there.

So, how does dynamic fog work in Warzone‘s new Vondel map?

According to the map’s official description, Vondel sits “atop a network of canals and is technically below sea level”. Consequently, it is susceptible to heavy fog during specific weather conditions.

In DMZ, Vondel’s dynamic fog is present during infiltrations. The density of the fog varies across the map and as games progress (hence the “dynamic” description). According to the official details, the fog “is light enough to still see your opposition, except at long ranges.” Although, in some cases it can become dense enough to limit visibility at medium ranges.

In the Battle Royale and Resurgence modes, the fog appears in “very rare instances”. Usually, Vondel is sunny and the sky contains minimal clouds. However, the dynamic nature of the fog means it can roll in at short notice and significantly change the nature of a game.

According to the blog, the arrival of fog necessitates tactical reevaluation. It tells players to “seek weapon optics to circumvent the weather, or head indoors, giving yourself optimal combat opportunities.”
