Warzone fans praise “awesome” proximity chat feature in vehicles

There is a great proximity chat feature in Call of Duty: Warzone that has gone largely unnoticed and unappreciated. Until now.

Warzone players have flocked to X (formerly Twitter) to heap praise on a 3D audio feature related to War Tracks.

War Tracks are licensed songs from an array of popular musicians and genres. They can be applied to in-game vehicles and will play as you drive. Previously, only you and your squad would be able to hear the music.

However, CoD fans have noticed that the music is now audible to enemy players via proximity chat.

That means you can hear tunes being blasted by rival squads as they drive past. And, best of all, it gets louder and quieter depending on their distance from you.

A clip of the feature was shared on X by @SlendermanXXI. It showed a player watching on as a squad in a GMC Hummer EV drove past while playing Mr. Brightside by The Killers.

Mistaking it for an obscure but welcome glitch, they wrote: “Greatest bug in Warzone right now”.

The clip attracted 3.8 million views and over 11K likes. It was soon picked up by popular Call of Duty news account ModernWarzone, who shared it and said: “There’s a bug in Warzone that makes war tracks play in proximity chat for everyone within range and it’s actually awesome”.

However, Call of Duty fans were quick to point out that it is not a bug. It is actually a feature that was added in Season 04 of Warzone 2.0.

The patch notes for that season list it as an audio adjustment: “Added ability for War Tracks to play in 3D positions from Vehicles in the world, rather than only to Players riding in a Vehicle”.

Reaction to the feature has been overwhelmingly positive. Many have said that even if it was a bug, they wouldn’t want it to be removed.

With Warzone being a highly-competitive game, it’s unsurprising that this fun little addition went unnoticed. Overwhelmingly, the focus in each new season is on gameplay tweaks and various weapon nerfs and buffs.

After all, the Warzone meta is a top priority for players. With that being said, we seriously appreciate cool features like this and it’s clear that many other players do as well.
