It’s safe to say that Warzone 2.0 has been a mixed bag so far. Almost four months on from its release and player numbers are dropping and the fan base is divided. And one recent DMZ announcement has caused controversy. Season 2 will feature a “reset and refresh”. But what can fans expect from the Warzone DMZ Season 2 reset and what progress will players lose?

DMZ is Call of Duty‘s take on survival looter-shooter Escape from Tarkov. The mode drops squads of up to three players into random locations around Al Mazrah.

The aim of the game is to collect as much valuable loot and weaponry as you can before extracting within the given time-limit.

DMZ has been a highlight of Warzone 2.0 for many players. It’s somewhat more relaxed than its Battle Royale counterpart but its high pressure extractions are undeniably exhilarating.

Fans have also been having fun with proximity chat in DMZ and enjoying completing contracts and missions.

With the mode being so loot-centric and having a heavy focus on missions and unlockables, fans were surprised when Infinity Ward announced a shock reset.

The refresh will happen at the start of Season 2 on 15 February. But why is the Warzone DMZ Season 2 reset happening and what progress will players lose?

What Progress Will Players Lose In Warzone DMZ Season 2 Reset?

Infinity Ward announced the surprise reset in a blog post on 25 January. Details were minimal and the prospect of losing progress understandably upset fans of the mode.

However, Infinity Ward has since detailed exactly what fans can expect from the reset. And while it still isn’t ideal, it probably isn’t quite as bad as players first feared.

What progress will players lose in Warzone DMZ Season 2 reset? Players will lose their contraband weapons and keys. Faction missions and mission progress will also be reset.

Thankfully, it has also been confirmed that players won’t lose any additional insured weapon slots unlocked during Season 1. Players will also keep mission and boss rewards – except for contraband and keys, obviously.

So, why is the reset actually happening?

Why Is The Refresh Happening In Season 2?

The reset is undoubtedly inconvenient. But Infinity Ward has explained the logic behind doing a refresh in Season 2.

It’s all about making DMZ a more balanced experience. And given the efforts currently being made to improve Warzone 2.0 as a whole, it’s understandable that big changes will also come to DMZ.

Specifically, Infinity Ward want to ensure the difficulty of Season 2’s missions isn’t as steep as in Season 1 which they feel “got too difficult, too quickly.”

A new set of missions will also be introduced in the second season. This will include “multi-location missions” which will take place across the mode’s three exclusion zones – Al Mazrah, Ashika Island, and Building 21.

Season 2’s mission set will feature new additions, updates to existing missions, and some of Infinity Ward’s favourite missions from the first season.

Keys are being reset to accommodate the ability “to hold specific mission items that you must gather from one Exclusion Zone and bring to another.” This means missions can bridge across the three DMZ maps.

Infinity Ward has promised more updates for DMZ as each new season drops. The company also says refreshes won’t happen every season. Let’s hope not.
