Warzone Caldera Glitches: New Map Is A Complete Mess

Call of Duty: Warzone was probably the biggest thing in gaming during the early COVID-19 pandemic. Since the release of Black Ops Cold War last year and the easing of restrictions worldwide, it certainly became less popular than it once was. However, with the release of Call of Duty: Vanguard and the all new Caldera map, Warzone‘s future seemed promising. And the Caldera map has a lot to offer. Unfortunately, despite an initial delay to its release, Caldera is in a broken state. Game-breaking glitches, bugs and server issues are rife. And a 16gb patch earlier this week did little to remedy the dire situation. So, what Warzone Caldera glitches do we know about?

Warzone Caldera Glitches

Glitches and bugs in Warzone‘s new Caldera map are widespread and impact most aspects of the game. Before I get into which glitches I’ve encountered, I must stress that it’s common to see multiple in any given lobby. When wrapped up into a giant bundle of glitchiness, they’re basically game-breaking. Why a billion dollar company can’t successfully make a new map for an existing game mode is anyone’s guess. But why they felt it was OK to force this mess on their player base is an even more concerning question.

Guns not loading & invisible guns

Guns not loading in is common. It seems like every other game someone in the squad has an invisible weapon. Sometimes the glitch corrects itself, sometimes it doesn’t. Either way, it’s always a huge problem.

What triggers the bug is unclear. It can occur at the beginning of a game, in the gulag, or after picking up a new weapon, and it renders you unable to defend yourself or attack enemies. Downing yourself doesn’t seem to fix it either, so you’re basically stuck waiting to die.

Graphics glitches

Perhaps the only thing more annoying than not having a gun at all is having one that is useless. Another frequent Warzone Caldera glitch is the one that turns weapons into blurry and blocky messes. Such issues aren’t limited to guns, either. I’ve seen other players running around as one gigantic glitch or whole sections of the map fail to load in. Often, even when areas do appear, the draw distance is abysmal.

These graphics-related problems are so frequent it’s impossible the development team didn’t notice them during play testing.

Unable to plate up

Want to top up your armour after a gun fight? Well, you better hope you don’t get struck by the glitch that prevents you from doing just that.

While you might have sufficient stock of plates in your inventory, the game doesn’t seem to recognise them. Instead, you hold the button to pop in a plate and nothing happens. Just what you need.

Footsteps and absent audio

The lack of footsteps is a real issue in Call of Duty: Vanguard. But with Warzone being based in Modern Warfare, it’s surprising the issue has surfaced there, too. It’s not that footsteps are never there, it’s that they’re woefully inconsistent. Seriously, it’s incredibly frustrating and leads to way too many unnecessary deaths.

Footsteps aren’t the only audio related issue, either. Sometimes, the parachute won’t make a sound when you pull or cut your chute. This results in you not being able to tell how close you are to the ground when coming in to land. It’s especially frustrating when you’re returning from the gulag hoping to make the most of your second chance only to mistime your drop and die thanks to missing audio.

Connection & server issues

Warzone is designed to be played as a team. That’s the whole reason it works so well. Unfortunately, repeated connection issues mean that it can be incredibly hard to stay together in a squad as you enter a new game. Even when playing alone, it’s common to be greeted by frozen loading screens, no loading screen at all, or error messages. To make things even more perplexing, your personal internet speed or connection seems to have no bearing on it. These issues make matchmaking incredibly time consuming.
