This guide explains how to turn off proximity chat in Warzone 2.0.
More than two and half years have passed since the launch of the original Call of Duty: Warzone. Millions of players have passed through Verdansk and Caldera, and thousands of hours have been spent fleeing the dreaded gas. But now Warzone 2.0 has arrived at last – and it has brought some big changes with it.
The revamped battle royale mode introduces a brand-new map. Gone are Verdansk and Caldera. Now fans can look forward to dropping in to Al Mazrah for the first time.
Al Mazrah is set to incorporate many of the locations from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II‘s multiplayer and campaign modes.
Warzone 2.0 will not only give players a new map to explore. It will also introduce a host of new gameplay features.
These include a new 2v2 Gulag, Circle Collapse, new vehicles, and a dedicated 3rd person playlist. On top of that, Warzone 2.0 is also set to feature the brand-new DMZ mode – Call of Duty‘s take on Escape from Tarkov.
Warzone 2.0 is also making some more minor changes to the way things work in battle royale. Many of which players might not even notice for weeks to come.
A brand new feature in Warzone 2.0 is proximity chat. It has featured in other online shooters for years – but this is its first appearance in Warzone.
The inclusion of proximity chat in Warzone 2.0 has proven popular although it isn’t to everyone’s liking.
For many, it’s a welcome addition that will make for fantastic video montages and hilarious clips. To others, it’s seen as a channel that’s open to abuse and detrimental to tactical comms.
As a result, you might want to disable proximity chat. So, let’s go over how to turn off proximity chat in Warzone 2.0…
How To Turn Off Proximity Chat in Warzone 2.0
Proximity chat is player-to-player voice chat that triggers when two players/squads are near to each other. This means you can hear enemy comms as they approach you and vice versa.
It goes without saying that this adds an all-new dimension to Warzone. Now, players have to be mindful of what they say when enemies are nearby. Give away your position and it could cost you in a big way.
However, as mentioned, proximity chat isn’t for everyone. And some people will to turn it off. Thankfully, Infinity Ward has included the option to disable it in Warzone 2.0.
This is how to turn off proximity chat in Warzone 2.0:
First, open the options menu and tab across to Settings (the gear icon). Then select Audio from the list.
Under the “Voice Chat” sub-heading, toggle “Proximity Chat” to off.

It’s that simple. With proximity chat turned off, players are free to roam around Al Mazrah as they did before without fear of being heard over the mic.
That said, if you’re playing Warzone 2.0 for the first time, consider leaving it turned on. It can make for some hilarious and tense moments – which is always a big bonus in multiplayer.
It’s also worth noting that proximity chat is automatically disabled when you’re in a personal party based outside of the game i.e. a PS5 party.
