Update

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and its expansion Uncharted: The Lost Legacy are getting PS5 and PC upgrades. Both will come as part of a remastered set dubbed Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection. That means fans will finally be able to enjoy Uncharted 4 in 4K and at 60 frames per second.

The new collection is scheduled to release in early 2022. It’ll arrive first on PS5 with the PC launch following “shortly after”.

Interestingly, it also looks like Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection will omit Uncharted 4‘s online mode. According to the ESRB rating page for the remastered set, it contains “No Interactive Elements”. This includes things like online play which allows players to interact with one another.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is undoubtedly one of the best looking games from the eighth console generation. It pushed the PlayStation 4 to its limit and was truly gorgeous to look at. Not only was it visually great but it was a true joy to play. I know I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. However, when i recently tried to replay Uncharted 4 on PS5, I was left underwhelmed by the lack of 4K resolution and 60 frames per second. I think it’s time for an Uncharted 4 4K 60fps upgrade on PS5.

4K 60fps upgrades are a hot topic in gaming right now. We’ve covered a few games that we feel are most in need of the next gen upgrade treatment already. But Uncharted 4 has to be one that fans want to see optimised for PS5 the most. Naughty Dog have already released a PS5 upgrade for The Last of Us Part II. But they haven’t done the same for Uncharted 4, their other PS4 classic. So, given the fact that The Last of Us Part II got its 4K 60fps update, how likely are we to see an Uncharted 4 4K 60fps update for PS5?

Is Uncharted 4 4K 60fps on PS5?

Unfortunately, Uncharted 4 does not run at 4K 60fps on PS5 right now. Given what a phenomenal success Uncharted 4 was for Naughty Dog and Sony, you’d expect that it would be high on the list of games deserving of a PS5 next gen upgrade. It was even one of the titles included in the PlayStation Plus Collection alongside the PS5’s launch. Alas, it is still stuck with the same performance it had on the PS4 Pro. That means that on the PS5, Uncharted 4 runs at 1440p resolution and 30fps in single player. It does, however, achieve 60fps in multiplayer. But only at 1080p resolution.

Will Uncharted 4 get a PS5 upgrade?

As we’ve mentioned, Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II has received a PS5 upgrade offering 4K 60fps. So, it isn’t a stretch to think that one is surely in the pipeline for Uncharted 4. Oddly, Naughty Dog hasn’t confirmed anything about such an upgrade. So, it’s certainly not guaranteed. It’s disappointing because The Last of Us Part II benefits tremendously from its next gen upgrade. You feel like you’re playing the definitive experience on PS5. And once you’ve got a taste of that sweet 60fps goodness, there’s no going back. However, the same experience isn’t available for Uncharted 4. And things don’t seem to be changing any time soon.

However, for fans wanting an Uncharted game playable at 4K 60fps, there may be hope yet. Naughty Dog co-president, Evan Wells, recently hinted that a new game in the series – Uncharted 5 – is on the horizon. Speaking to Game Informer, Wells explained, ‘there is still a ton of love for Uncharted and The Last Of Us, and I think you’ll see both kinds of projects from us in the future.’

Uncharted 4 PS5 60fps

To summarise, Uncharted 4 does not run at 60fps on PS5. Nor does it have 4K resolution. It’s still locked at 30fps 1080p. PS5’s Game Boost means that it can utilise the new console’s additional horsepower to mitigate frame rate drops below 30fps. But being as Uncharted 4 is capped, it can’t achieve 60fps without a patch to unlock the frame rate and improve the resolution. Unfortunately, it seems unlikely we’ll get a next gen upgrade any time soon. But we can always hope.
