Amazon’s The Rings of Power has arrived and what a spectacle it is. Middle-Earth has never looked better and fans are in awe. The series kicked off this week with a two-episode launch and viewers have plenty of questions about the new show. And one thing that may have fans puzzled viewers are the Harfoots. With many wondering if Harfoots are Hobbits in The Rings of Power?

Firstly, let’s discuss The Rings of Power and how it fits into the wider The Lord of the Rings universe.

Amazon’s new TV show for Prime is set during the Second Age. This is thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, which take place during the Third Age.

While viewers will undoubtedly be familiar with the events of those films – as well as the books they’re based on – The Rings of Power isn’t based on any one specific work by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Instead, The Rings of Power combines material and lore from The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings and its appendices to create its narrative.

In the show’s first two episodes, viewers are introduced to a huge case of characters. This includes various races, such as Harfoots. And they bear a striking resemblance to Hobbits.

Harfoots which have had key roles in The Rings of Power so far include Sadoc Burrows, Nori, Largo and Marigold Brandyfoot, and Poppy Proudfellow.

But what do we know about the Harfoots? Is The Rings of Power the first time we’ve seen Harfoots? And are Harfoots Hobbits in The Rings of Power?

The Rings of Power: Are Harfoots Hobbits?

Are Harfoots Hobbits in The Rings of Power? Yes – Harfoots are Hobbits. They live in a forest in Rhovanion, which is east of the Misty Mountains. Harfoots are actually one of three types of Hobbit. The other two are Stoors and Fallohides.

In the Third Age, Harfoots would eventually inhabit the Shire along with the Fallohides. This would become the primary homeland of Hobbits.

Stoors live separately from other Hobbits in the Anduin Vale. Sméagol (Gollum) was a Stoor before he was corrupted by the One Ring. This would ultimately deform his body, making him unrecognisable as a Stoor.
