2021’s The Game Awards show is set to take place on 9th December. Like last year, there’s lots of speculation about what games will be revealed at the event. Many consider 2021 to have been something of a slow year in gaming. Fans point to The Game Awards’ Game of the Year nominees as evidence of that. The hope is that plenty of exciting titles will be unveiled at The Game Awards 2021 for gamers to look forward to next year. Thankfully, if past years are anything to go by, we’re likely to see some big upcoming games for the first time at this year’s event.
The Game Awards 2021 Game Announcements
We already have a decent idea of what video games to expect in 2022. Most were delayed from 2021 – like God of War: Ragnarok, Horizon: Forbidden West and Gran Turismo 7. As a result, The Game Awards is the last major chance for developers and publishers to announce exciting new projects for 2022 before the New Year rolls round. And it seems like they have some intriguing reveals up their sleeves.
Geoff Keighley, The Game Awards’ Executive Producer and Host, has promised big things for this year’s event. Talking to USA Today, he told gamers to expect “four or five things” on the level of Elden Ring‘s Summer Game Fest gameplay trailer. As we know, Elden Ring is one of the most anticipated games of 2022. If Keighley wanted to manage expectations for a lacklustre lineup, promising reveals on that level would be unwise.
Of course, there will be more than just a handful of mega announcements. Keighley said in a previous interview that viewers can expect 40-50 games to appear in “someway or another”. What’s more, he added that the number of announcements is in the double digits. This means fans can expect at least 10 new games to be revealed at the event.
2021’s The Game Awards will have a significant focus on new titles as well as sequels. “Probably six or ten of our games are things that people don’t know exist”, Keighley explained.
