Call of Duty: Warzone‘s much-anticipated Halloween event is here. The Haunting introduces lots of unique spooky season features, including new bosses and challenges. One of these bosses is the Butcher. Players must complete a special ritual and travel through an inter-dimensional portal to reach him. But this has inadvertently created a frustrating gas exploit that allows players to use the Butcher to survive until the very end of the game.
In addition to the Butcher, Activision has added other challenges in the form of a UFO, Swamp Creatures, the Pharaoh, the Ghost Train, and Evil Spirits. However, the Butcher is arguably the most exciting as it functions as a full-blown boss fight (complete with a special arena and health bar).
To initiate the boss fight with the Butcher, you need to complete the ritual by using the Altar of Lilith. To do this, you must activate each line in the glowing pentagram on the ground. Once this is done, the Nightmare Portal will appear. Travelling through the portal will take you to Hell where the Butcher is waiting.
Flanked by countless zombies, you must slowly chip away at the Butcher’s health and contend with his undead horde. But be careful. Other players can use the portal, kill you, and finish the boss fight for themselves.
While the Butcher’s arena is intended to be used solely for the boss fight, players have discovered that it can also be used to survive the gas. This provides an unparalleled advantage that opposing squads can do little to counter.
The Butcher gas exploit in Warzone The Haunting
This is how the The Butcher gas exploit works in Warzone‘s The Haunting event. Once players have travelled through the Nightmare Portal, they will be able to stay in the Butcher’s arena as long as he is alive. The gas will not appear in the arena, therefore providing players with a safe haven as long as they can survive against the Butcher’s zombies and avoid his attacks.
This means that players left in the ‘real world’ will be unable to reach the squad hiding in the Nightmare Portal once the gas has engulfed it. As a result, victory is guaranteed for the squad inside the Nightmare Portal.
Of course, this exploit is a completely unbalanced and illegitimate way of winning a game in Warzone. In effect, it provides players with a hiding place that can be used to wait out entire games while avoiding confrontation.
It remains to be seen whether the exploit will be fixed. However, given that The Haunting is set to end on 6th November, it is likely the event will be left as it is between now and its conclusion.
Unfortunately, we have already encountered this gas exploit being used by players to win games in Warzone. And it’s probable that more squads will start to use it as they become aware of its existence.
