We weren’t expecting this. Tekken 8 has seemingly been teased at EVO 2022 in a surprise trailer.
While brief, it’s our first clear hint that Bandai Namco are working on the next instalment in the long-running fighting game series.
Tekken 7 first launched for arcade way back in 2015. It later arrived on console in 2017.
It was critically well-received and has retained the franchise’s dedicated player base. Tekken 7 remains popular today more than five years since its multi-platform release.
But fans have been hoping for something new from the series for some time. So the recent teaser will come as an exciting prospect for many.
New Tekken 8 Teaser Trailer
The Tekken 8 teaser trailer was shown during EVO 2022. In case you don’t know, EVO is an annual fighting game tournament:
“The Evolution Championship Series (Evo for short) represents the largest and longest-running fighting game tournaments in the world. For 20 years, Evo has brought together the best of the best from around the world in an electric exhibition of skill and fun.”

At first, the video seemed like a simple trip down memory lane. Kazuya Mishima’s ending from the original 1994 Tekken played. It featured Kazuya carrying his father Heihachi to the edge of a cliff and dropping him. Kazuya then turns and grins at the camera.
However, the picture distorted and an older, more battle-worn Kazuya appeared on screen in modern graphics.
His left eye glowed red and the words “GET READY” appeared. This, of course, suggests a new Tekken game is on the way.
Judging from the live reaction of those in attendance, EVO 2022 was the perfect place to drop the teaser.
Tekken 8 Release Date
Tekken 8 hasn’t been officially confirmed – yet. This was simply a teaser for more to come from the series.
There has been lots of speculation recently that Namco Bandai are working on either a sequel to Tekken 7 or a Tekken remake. We don’t know for certain whether either of these games are what’s being hinted at in the teaser. Although Tekken 8 appears to be the most likely of the two.
As for Tekken 8‘s release date, we don’t yet know when it will come out. As a teaser for an unannounced game, it’s important not to read too much into it.
It’s also worth noting that Tekken games always arrive for arcade first, followed by a later console release. It’s likely that Tekken 8 will follow this trend.
All we know for sure is that we need to “GET READY” for something new from one of the greatest fighting game series ever. And we can’t wait.
