Starfield takes players all over the galaxy on a mission to discover the answer behind mysterious alien artefacts. Along the way, there’s a lot of side quests to undertake and interesting things to find.
A large amount of Starfield is built around an RNG system that makes much of what players find random. One of the places that I found out in the blackest sea was the Cryogen Research Lab. Thanks to the RNG system, it doesn’t always appear on the same planet, so others might find it in a different place.
The lab is located in an underground facility that has been overrun by pirates. Sadly, the pirates killed all the scientists and took the facility’s resources for themselves.
The Cryogen Research Lab sits in the belly of the facility; however, two locked doors prevented me from getting inside. Of course, I wanted to know what was inside, so I wanted to find the lab key.

This is where I found the Cryogen Research Lab Key location in Starfield: From the door on the right, look up to the right above the walkway. There is a dead scientist hanging from a vent in the ceiling. The lab key can be looted from the scientist’s corpse.
Alternatively, if you have levelled up the Security skill to Rank 2 and have the ability to pick Expert locks, you can attempt to unlock the lab with a digipick.
With the key being so close by and Expert level locks having multiple levels of security, it is much easier to pick up the key off the scientist’s body.
Once you have the key, be sure to unlock both doors to the lab. One leads down to the lab itself and another contains storage containers that contain valuable loot.
