The rumoured Star Wars game from Heavy Rain and Detroit: Become Human developer Quantic Dream is real. And it’s called Star Wars: Eclipse. It was revealed during last night’s The Game Awards 2021 show.
With the Star Wars film series seemingly on pause, fans of the franchise will be keen for more content from a galaxy far, far away. And Eclipse should help scratch that itch. Likewise, lovers of Quantic Dream’s previous work will surely be excited to see what the studio does next. While their previous games weren’t necessarily to everyone’s tastes, they were tremendous examples of how complex and engaging narratives can be presented in video games. With that being said, what can we expect from their next project?
What is Star Wars: Eclipse?
Very few details have been shared about Eclipse so far. But according to its official website, it’s an action-adventure game featuring a “multiple-character branching narrative”. Those familiar with previous titles from Quantic Dream will know what that means. Numerous playable characters with intertwined stories and decisions that impact the game’s outcome.
As far as its place in the Star Wars galaxy, Eclipse is set during High Republic era. According to Wookieepedia, the High Republic era “lasted for around two hundred years… [when] the Galactic Republic was said to be at its height. It was also a golden age for the Jedi, who were significantly more active throughout the galaxy, and a time of expansion and exploration in the Outer Rim Territories.”
Release date
When is Star Wars: Eclipse coming out? We don’t know yet – and we likely won’t do for quite some time. The game’s official website states that it’s in early development. So, we’ll have to wait a while before we get a confirmed Star Wars: Eclipse release date.
Trailer
The game’s reveal trailer is available now on YouTube. It’s dramatic and action-packed, with all the music, lightsaber duals, and starfighter chaos you’d expect. The only thing it’s lacking is actual gameplay – but hopefully we’ll see more of that over the next year or so.
