The long-rumoured Splinter Cell remake did not make an appearance at Ubisoft Forward yesterday despite much anticipation from fans.

Back in 2021, Ubisoft announced that a remake of Splinter Cell was in the works at Ubisoft Toronto using the Snowdrop engine. Since then, there has been no update on the game.

Fans had speculated that Splinter Cell, which is one of the nine games currently in development at Ubisoft, would be a focal point of the Ubisoft Forward presentation. Not only was it not a main feature, it wasn’t mentioned at all.

Instead, Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Star Wars Outlaws – both coming later this year – took centre stage at the presentation.

On X, fans shared their disappointment at the lack of news about Splinter Cell.

One user shared a GIF of Mel Gibson contemplating suicide in Lethal Weapon with the caption, “Splinter Cell fans rn”.

Another X user shared an image of a clown wearing Sam Fisher’s trademark night vision goggles. “Why does ubi hate splinter cell so much,” responded a fan.

“Ubi is enjoying watching their best franchise die on the vine while we are all starving for it,” wrote @steven_tobi_.

The original Splinter Cell game came out in 2002. It was met with critical acclaim and is regarded as one of the best stealth games ever made.

Back when the remake was announced in 2021, producer Matt West said: ““Although we’re still in the very earliest stages of development, what we’re trying to do is make sure the spirit of the early games remains intact, in all of the ways that gave early Splinter Cell its identity.”

“So, as we’re building it from the ground up, we’re going to update it visually, as well as some of the design elements to match player comfort and expectations, and we are going to keep it linear like the original games, not make it open world,” he continued.

The last game in the series, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, came out in 2013. Fans of the series have been eager for a new instalment ever since. However, it looks like we’ll have to keep waiting – and who knows for how long.
