Last week, we shared our predictions for PlayStation Showcase 2021. One game we didn’t include was Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. While a full sequel to 2018’s mega-hit was inevitable, there hasn’t been any news about its development. Until now. Hot on the heels of the announcement of Wolverine for PS5, Spider-Man 2 PS5 took everyone by surprise. And it looks set to deliver a double-whammy of Spidey action and feature Venom as its primary villain. So, what do we know about Spider-Man 2 so far?
Spider-Man 2 PS5: Release date
Anyone who has played the previous two instalments in Insomniac’s Spider-Man series knows the massive scope and scale of these games. Understandably, they take a long time to make. At the end of Spider-Man 2‘s reveal trailer, we got a release window. So, when is Spider-Man 2 coming out? 2023. That’s two years away (perhaps a bit less if it comes out in early to mid 2023). Obviously, we don’t have a specific date just yet – but hopefully we’ll get one sooner rather than later.
Trailer
We got a short reveal trailer for Spider-Man 2 on PS5 during PlayStation Showcase. It showed Peter Parker and Miles Morales battling out with goons before the reveal of Venom, presumably as the game’s main villain. Check out the Spider-Man 2 trailer here…
Story
Spider-Man 2 has only just been revealed and we don’t know a whole lot about its story. It goes without saying that it’ll pick up where 2020’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales left off. We also know the game will feature Peter Parker AND Miles Morales, as I mentioned above. So, it looks like Spider-Man 2 will be all about both versions of Spider-Man working together to defeat Venom.
Will Spider-Man 2 be on PS4?
We hope that everyone who wants a PS5 will have the opportunity to buy one by 2023. But with severe stock shortages and ongoing scalper issues, that might be wishful thinking. So it’s reasonable that lots of people are asking “Is Spider-Man 2 on PS4?”. We don’t know yet, although it seems unlikely. It’s still two years away, and if Insomniac are hoping to radically improve on the first two games they may be forced to leave the PS4 behind.
