While the flashlight isn’t the only light source that players can make use of, it is definitely the best. The old fashioned flame torch is OK – and it doubles as a weapon – but the amount of light it produces isn’t that helpful.
Similarly, a large fire is good for illuminating a large area. But fires are static, so don’t help with navigating the world at night.
As a result, the flashlight (with its long battery life and bright light) is the number one option for exploring the game’s many bunkers and caves. I really wish I’d have gotten it sooner – things would have been so much easier.

There are two ways of getting items in Sons of the Forest. You can make them from scratch using a 3D printer or find them.
The flashlight (AKA a torch to us Brits) is one of the many items that must be found by the player. Thankfully, it is in a relatively safe location that is easy to find.
This is how to get the flashlight in Sons of the Forest: This portable light source can be found at the purple GPS locator near to the southern end of the river coming down from the north sea, as shown on the map above.
Once you arrive at the map marker, you will see a soldier hanging from a rock face. Go up to the top and cut him down to collect the flashlight.
How To Use The Flashlight in Sons of the Forest
Once you have the flashlight in your inventory, you will want to make use of it. However, it can’t be used in its initial state because it needs power.
This is how to use the flashlight in Sons of the Forest: Go into your inventory and combine the light with batteries.
Once powered up with batteries, all you need to do is equip the flashlight to use it. It does not need to be manually turned on each time.
