It’s safe to say that Modern Warfare III (MW3) is the most divisive entry in recent Call of Duty history. Its campaign has been universally panned. Meanwhile, many players are enjoying its fresh take on Zombies and the multiplayer component is receiving praise for addressing many of the issues present in last year’s MW2.

This includes numerous changes that have been made to player movement, such as the re-introduction of slide cancelling and an increased focus on fast-paced gameplay. As is always the case in CoD, players are constantly on the look out for new ways to exploit movement for tactical advantages.

If you were playing MW2 last year shortly after its release, you may remember G-Walking. Named after the way a gorilla moves, it proved relatively popular among the hardcore CoD community for a while. But gorillas are a thing of the past, and optimum movement in Call of Duty is now all about snakes.

“Snaking” is a controversial movement exploit that treads the line between sprinting and going prone. It allows players to maintain momentum and manoeuvrability while also being hard to hit. However, things are now being taken to the next level with the discovery of Snaking 2.0.

If you’ve been on social media in the last couple of days, you may have seen some of the discussion surrounding it. But if you’re only just hearing about it, allow me to explain what it is.

What is Snaking 2.0 in Call of Duty MW3?

Snaking 2.0 is a movement exploit that allows players to move like a snake in MW3. Players using Snaking 2.0 are in the prone position and glide rapidly along the ground. It has also been called “prone-sliding”.

This provides an immense advantage to anyone who has mastered the glitch. It makes players difficult to spot as they are below eye level. It also removes footstep sound meaning you can easily sneak up on opponents.

Dubbed the “New Movement Meta” by @PullzeCheck on X, countless clips of it are now doing the rounds online. Popular Call of Duty news account ModernWarzone also picked up on it, posting: “There’s a new movement mechanic in Modern Warfare 3 that turns you into a literal snake.”

According to various reports from across the CoD community, Snaking 2.0 is only possible on PC when using a keyboard and mouse. While some claim it is also achievable using a controller on console, I was unable to verify this.

To execute a successful prone-slide on PC, players must have automatic sprint enabled, bind the mouse wheel to “Stance Down”, and set “Mouse Wheel Delay” to 0. Once these settings have been applied, you need to jump and rapidly scroll the mouse wheel up three times while pressing and holding W.

With Snaking 2.0 providing such blatant movement benefits, it’s likely the exploit will be patched out of the game in the future. Until then, players will need to keep their eyes on the ground for any enemies slithering around.
