Blood and Gold premiered on Netflix on 26 May. This World War II action film, directed by Peter Thorwarth, takes a unique approach, resembling a spaghetti western rather than a conventional war movie. It captures the essence of 1960s classics like The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and A Fistful of Dollars through its soundtrack and plotting. However, the inclusion of Nazism adds an intriguing twist to the genre. The movie is predominantly in German, but should you watch Blood and Gold dubbed or with subtitles?

Before we get into that, let’s delve into the movie’s premise.

Blood and Gold revolves around Heinrich (played by Robert Maaser), a disillusioned German deserter who has grown weary of the Nazi war machine after years of conflict. He finds himself pursued by Nazi soldiers led by Lieutenant Colonel von Starnfeld, who are on a quest to locate hidden gold. Soon, he joins forces with farmer’s daughter Elsa in an effort to repel the Nazi threat.

Blood and Gold is a German movie and most of the characters are German. Consequently, characters speak their native tongue and English viewers are left with a choice of dubbed over voices or subtitles. But should you watch Blood and Gold dubbed or with subtitles?

Should you watch Blood and Gold dubbed or with subtitles?

Should you watch Blood and Gold dubbed or with subtitles? Dialogue in Blood and Gold is predominantly in German and the main characters are from Germany. As a result, the most authentic viewing experience is to watch the movie in German with English subtitles.

However, this option mostly comes down to personal preference. If you don’t like or struggle to keep up with subtitles, it makes more sense to watch Blood and Gold dubbed in English. Of course, some people find dubbed voices distracting as they are out-of-sync with the actors’ mouthes. If this applies to you, then you are better off watching with subtitles.

Whatever option you choose, Blood and Gold is an exhilarating movie that should more than satisfy any craving for war-themed action.
