Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0 are well into their fourth month. And now Activsion and Infinity Ward have started to announce new and returning features in the upcoming Season 2 update.
The new season can’t come soon enough for Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0. The interconnected games have seen a worrying downturn in their player numbers.
Between November and December, Warzone 2.0 lost 20% of its players. Numbers then dropped a further 16% in January.
Season 2 was originally slated for launch on 1 February. However, it was pushed back two weeks to 15 February.
Activision explained, “”Our studio teams have been making several changes based on what we heard from our player community.”
Many fans have been vocal in their opposition to changes made in Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0.
The revamped backpack looting and weapon progression systems are just two of the features that have been the subject of online criticism. Most notably, some fans have said that Modern Warfare II spoils CoD‘s classic arcade-like feel with its shift towards realism.
Whichever side you fall on, there’s bound to be things you like and don’t like about the latest Call of Duty game. Thankfully, Infinity Ward is bringing back some fan favourite modes that are likely to attract players back to Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0.
Resurgence Is Back In Warzone 2.0 Season 2
The biggest news coming out of the Season 2 announcement wasn’t the delay itself. Instead, Activision confirmed that Resurgence would be making its highly anticipated return on 15 February.
“Season 02 includes all new content, with the return of Resurgence and a brand new small map for Warzone 2.0,” said the publisher.
The popular Resurgence mode was conspicuously absent from the launch of Warzone 2.0. Many who exclusively enjoyed the fast-paced antics of Resurgence simply abandoned the sequel. They vowed to only return when it was reinstated.
This was a major point of contention among fans. And this news will certainly go someway in restoring good faith.
Based on the announcement, fans can expect a new small map to house the returning Resurgance mode. It doesn’t look like Rebirth Island or Fortune’s Keep will be making their return anytime soon.
Hardcore Mode Returns To Multiplayer
Popular multiplayer mode Hardcore is also making its Modern Warfare II debut in Season 2.
On Twitter, Infinity Ward announced, “No HUD? No problem. Hardcore is back!”
The classic mode typically features no HUD, shorter time-to-kill, and friendly fire. Notably, Modern Warfare II already features Tier 1 – a mode that is very close in design to Hardcore. Whether Hardcore will replace Tier 1 is yet to be announced.
