This guide explains how to unlock the Castle Gate in Resident Evil 4 remake.
When you reach Chapter 7 – “The Castle” – in RE4 remake, you must make your way through the fortress while trying to avoid deadly ranged attacks from enemies.
That’s because Ganados have access to huge catapults in this area and launch explosive debris at you. To make matters worse, your progress is halted when you arrive at the Castle Gate.
The gate is locked and there’s no obvious way forward. Leon will mention the need to get creative in order to open the gate.
So, what do you need to do next once you’ve reached the Castle Gate?
How to unlock the Castle Gate in Resident Evil 4 remake
This is how to unlock the Castle Gate in Resident Evil 4 remake: First, you need to make your way to the partially damaged tower southwest of the locked gate by crossing a bridge. Run round the tower and drop down inside it.
You will see a large cannon in the centre of the room. You need to get it to the roof. To do this, shoot down the weighted metal cage on the other side of the room. This is holding the cannon down and will cause it to rise.
Next, head out and climb the ladder northwest of the cannon. Run up the ramp and loop round. You will see a door ahead. Unlock and go through it then turn right. Go straight ahead and across the bridge to reach the cannon.
You may have figured out by now that you don’t actually need to unlock the gate. Use the cannon to shoot the Castle Gate and smash it open instead.
While completing this objective, enemies will continually fling flaming projectiles at you. It’s best to use a scoped rifle to take them out from a distance. Look for the catapults and either shoot the enemies operating them or the red explosive barrels. The barrels will destroy the catapults.
