Resident Evil 4 remake: How to solve Grand Hall statue puzzle

The Serpent statue in Resident Evil 4 remake, part of how to solve the Grand Hall statue puzzle.

This guide explains how to solve the Grand Hall statue puzzle in Resident Evil 4 remake.

Resident Evil 4 remake’s ninth chapter – “The Grand Hall” – slows things down just a little bit after the hectic pace of the previous chapters. So, once you reach the Grand Hall, take a breather and be sure to visit the Merchant.

Before long, you’ll be looking for the way out of the Grand Hall. But – as usual – it isn’t that simple. At the far end of the Grand Hall is a headless statue. Next to it is a locked door. Going through this door is the only way forwards.

On the door is an image of the headless statue – but it looks different. It features three golden animal heads. And that means – you guessed it – you’ll need to find the heads and place them on the statue.

There are three heads to collect – a serpent, a lion, and a goat. But where are they and how do you solve their accompanying puzzles and challenges?

Serpent head location and puzzle

Go through the door to the left of the headless statue and into the Dining Hall. There are two paintings at the far end of the room. They feature a king and a queen. Ashley must sit at the table setting matching the queen while Leon must sit at the table setting matching the king.

Refer to the picture below showing the correct places for Leon and Ashley to sit:

Once both characters are seated correctly, ring the bell. This will open the serpent statue’s cage and allow you take its head.

Lion head location and puzzle

Return to the headless statue. Head up the stairs onto the next floor’s walkways. On the northwest side is a door. Go through it and this will lead to the Armory. Drop down into the Armory (leaving Ashley above) and approach the Lion statue.

The lion head can be collected without completing a puzzle as such. However, you will have to face a number of armored enemies (Armadura) after collecting it. They are wearing full suits of armor that provide lots of protection, however the Plaga underneath are somewhat exposed. This provides an opening for you to shoot and damage them.

Ashley will throw blue flames at the Armadura to freeze them in place. Use these opportunities to shoot and melee them. Successful shots will unleash the Plaga heads beneath so aim for their tentacles and opt for your high-powered weapons if possible.

After beating three waves, you’re finally done. Go to the two centaur statues and use the levers with Ashley to leave. Collect the Cubic Device from the chest ahead (this opens Square Lock Boxes) and then go back to the Grand Hall.

Goat head location and puzzle

Finally, it’s time to get the goat head. From the headless statue, head up the stairs and go through the far door on the southwest side to the Gallery.

The final statue head is here at the end of a bridge. Proceeding across will trigger the bridge to lower and numerous Zealots to attack.

A red Zealot will appear on the balconies above and cause many of the grunt Zealots to sprout Plaga from their heads. Use flash grenades to kill them quickly if you have them. Their leader will swap between the balconies, so take him out as quickly as possible to prevent enemies from transforming.

Once you’ve killed all the Zealots, climb the ladder on the far side of the room up to the floor above and make your way to the lever to raise the bridge to the statue. Go up the stairs and through the gate, then turn right onto the bridge.

Collect the goat head at the end of the bridge. More Zealots will attack once you’ve collected it, so kill them and head back to the headless statue. Once you get there, place the statue heads to complete the puzzle.
