Resident Evil 4 remake: How to get into the church

So, you’ve passed through the town hall and have arrived at the village church. Getting inside is an essential part of Leon’s mission to find the President’s daughter, Ashley, in Resident Evil 4. However, like many main mission locations in the game, it is locked.

While most locked doors and gates in Resident Evil 4 can be unlocked by finding a key nearby, getting the Church Insignia key is considerably more involved. It isn’t until Chapter 4 that you actually get your hands on it.

Unfortunately, there is no quick way to get around the locked door/gate. That means your only option is to push on. Follow the steps below to get the Church Insignia key which can be used to get into the church.

How To Get Into Church in Resident Evil 4 Remake

This is how to get into the church in Resident Evil 4:

1. From the locked gate, walk round to the right side of the building and go through the unlocked door on your left.
2. Inside, look at the map on the wall to give you your next objective. It shows that the Church Insignia key is in a cave on the other side of the lake.
3. Climb down the hatch in the corner of the room and follow the path through the quarry and down to the lake.
4. Refuel the boat by visiting the boat house at the far end of the Fish Farm.
5. Next you must fight and defeat the Del Lago lake monster.
6. In Chapter 4, after passing through the Mural Cave where the Insignia key is held, use the boat to visit both the Large Cave Shrine and Small Cave Shrine. Inside each one is a Stone Dais puzzle that you must solve. Check out our individual guides for completing those (linked above).
7. After completing both Stone Dais puzzles, return to the Mural Cave with the Apostate’s Head and the Blasphemer’s Head. Place them on the stone hands at the alter to release the key.
8. With the Church Insignia key in hand, return to the church by going back the way you came.

Once you’re back where you started, simply use the key to unlock the front door. You will now be able to get into the church.
