Xbox and PC exclusive Redfall launches tomorrow, 2 May. As often happens, a clip of the game has leaked out on Twitter ahead of release. This short snippet of gameplay ia leaving viewers with differing impressions of Redfall. Some are impressed with the vampiric shooter whereas others are underwhelmed by what they have seen.
Redfall derives its name from a make-believe town located in Massachusetts, USA that serves as the game’s backdrop. The town falls under the grip of vampires as a result of a scientific experiment gone awry, leaving players stranded. The game’s plot revolves around four distinct characters, each with their own set of skills, who must confront the vampires and their human allies.
Redfall is a first-person shooter that can be played solo or cooperatively. The four playable characters come with their own individual abilities to help them combat the vampire threat.
Twitter user @moatxsx shared a short 29-second clip of Redfall on the social media platform. In the video, the player can be seen fighting vampires, sprinting, and reloading. Despite being only a short glimpse of Redfall‘s gameplay, viewers have come to their own conclusions about the game.
In the replies, one user said: “Yeah this looks pretty good. Vampire movement simular [sic] to re8 lycans. Small clip but it looks like the vampires seem to come at you from all angles. Yeah I’m excited for it.” Others disagreed. @GenWorldTV responded, “Don’t compare this to RE8. Those lycans move heavy and deep, this looks nothing like that.”
Another user wrote: “Ngl, this doesn’t look that great. Graphics seem average at best, world looks sparse. I’ll reserve judgement until playing but I don’t think this will be stealing any time from Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom”.
Over on Reddit, reception to the clip was similarly lukewarm. u/Hash_Brwn182 said, “Obviously a 30sec clip doesn’t define a game but shooting at bullet sponge vampires doesn’t seem like a fun game to me”. Another redditor remarked that the clip made Redfall look “very plain”.
However, not everyone was put off by the footage. u/Current-Cold-4185 said, “I’m excited to play anything Arkane makes. They make good games. Until I play one that sucks, which could happen, I’m going to be on deck to try it as soon as I can.”
Redfall will be available on Xbox and PC Game Pass for subscribers.
