After months of speculation, Rockstar Games is rereleasing the original Red Dead Redemption for “modern consoles” on 17 August. The classic PS3 and Xbox 360 western is widely regarded as one of the best games ever made, and now fans will have the opportunity to play it natively on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. However, fans are asking: “Is Red Dead Redemption getting a physical release on Nintendo Switch?”
2010’s Red Dead Redemption follows John Marston as his former life as an outlaw in the American Frontier catches up with him. With his wife and son taken hostage by the US government, he is forced to track down the former members of his old gang and bring them to justice.
The upcoming rerelease will also feature the Undead Nightmare expansion pack. The acclaimed DLC (which also got its own physical release) is set in an alternative timeline in which John Marston sets out to uncover the cause of a zombie outbreak and to find a cure for the plague which has infected his wife and son.
With fans eager to get back into John Marston’s boots, let’s take a look at if Red Dead Redemption is getting a physical release on Nintendo Switch…
Red Dead Redemption Nintendo Switch Physical Release
Is Red Dead Redemption getting a physical release on Nintendo Switch? Digital versions of Red Dead Redemption on Nintendo Switch and PS4 will arrive on 17 August with a physical release following two months later on 13 October, Rockstar Games has confirmed.
The reason for the delay has not been explained but it is good to know that a physical version of the game will be available for those who want to add it to their collection.
The rerelease, developed by Double Eleven Studios, is not a remaster akin to Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition that came out in 2021. This means that it will not feature updated graphics and features that players expect from modern consoles. Instead, this port simply makes Red Dead Redemption available natively on PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
