Red Dead Redemption 2 is undoubtedly one of greatest achievements in gaming history. The game’s detailed world, compelling characters and engrossing story still have everyone talking even now. And it’s been more than three years since its release. For that reason, it’s easy to understand why fans have been asking about Red Dead Redemption 2 DLC non-stop since it hit the shelves.
RDR2 is something of a uniting force in the often divided gaming community. Most agree it was a spectacular experience – and the vast majority want more of it. 2010’s Red Dead Redemption received Undead Nightmare – a standalone game which provided brand new single-player content. But is there anything like this on the way for its prequel? Will there be any RDR2 DLC?
Red Dead Redemption 2 DLC release date
Let’s get perhaps the biggest question out of the way first. When is RDR2 DLC coming out? Whatever form it takes, it’s currently unclear when (if ever) Red Dead Redemption 2 single-player DLC will be released. There hasn’t been an official announcement from Rockstar regarding any additional content for Red Dead Redemption 2 to date. Obviously, it’s too late now for RDR2 DLC 2021 – the year is almost over. We can always hope for something new in 2022, but we’re not able to confirm if anything is coming next year.

But what about Red Dead Redemption 2 story DLC? Is there any indication or teases of an expansion to its plot? Nope – we haven’t heard anything about that either. Of course, there’s plenty of scope for expansion in the Red Dead universe. There are countless potential stories for Rockstar to tell. But it seems they’re unwilling to explore any further aspect of this world until the next full Red Dead entry. And nobody knows when that will be. So if you’re hoping for RDR2 DLC story mode additions, you’re probably going to be disappointed.
It’s important to point out that Grand Theft Auto V never received any story-based DLC and it seems Rockstar has diverted all its attention to multiplayer. Plenty of content has been released for GTA Online, and Red Dead Online is clearly Rockstar’s focal point instead of the much-loved story mode.
Red Dead Redemption 2 DLC single-player
Okay – so we know there isn’t any story-based RDR2 PS4 DLC on the way. Will there ever be some standard single-player content, though? RDR2 single-player DLC would undoubtedly be a welcome addition, and the possibilities are endless. Rockstar could introduce new missions or map areas. They could release Undead Nightmare 2 (although any 2021 announcement would’ve surely come around Halloween). It would even be cool to see further content to expand on Red Dead Redemption 2‘s existing towns and cities. Unfortunately, there hasn’t been any talk from Rockstar to suggest new single-player content of any kind is in the works. Hell, we don’t even know if a Red Dead Redemption 2 4K 60fps update will ever see the light of day – and that seems like a no-brainer! We’re just going to have to keep on dreaming…
