This Ready or Not guide explains how to fix the problem where players can’t use the Optiwand in the Tutorial level.
Ready or Not is the tactical first-person shooter that has taken the gaming world by storm over the past few weeks. The SWAT simulator was first released in early access back in 2021. It then officially launched on 13 December 2023 and quickly jumped up the Steam charts.
The game follows in the footsteps of Police Quest‘s SWAT sub-series to give players an armed police experience that oscillates between realism and fantasy thanks to its graphic portrayal of law enforcement operations.
Despite its controversial subject matter and unpolished feel, Ready or Not is an undeniably engrossing game that’s unique in the modern video game landscape. Where Call of Duty opts for fast-paced simplicity, Ready or Not aims to deliver a complex, true-to-life experience – and that means there’s a lot to learn.
Thankfully, Ready or Not has a tutorial level that introduces players to the game’s SWAT mechanics. Disappointingly, this section can be frustratingly unintuitive as a new player and nowhere is this more apparent than when it comes to using the Optiwand tool.
Players are finding that they can’t use the Optiwand when prompted. So, let’s take a look at a fix for this issue in the tutorial level of Ready or Not.
Can’t use Optiwand in Tutorial level fix – Ready or Not
This is how to fix the issue where you can’t use the Optiwand in the Ready or Not tutorial level:
When the objective prompt instructing you to use the Optiwand appears, you will be at a door. However, this prompt and the associated red objective arrow are misleading. You actually need to use the Optiwand on the next door, as pictured below.
To do this, go through the first door into a short corridor. You will see another closed door on your right.
Approach the second door and pull out the Optiwand using the ‘5’ key. Point it at the bottom of the door. A prompt will then appear that allows you to look under the door with the Optiwand by holding the left mouse button down.
In conclusion, it is not that you can’t use the Optiwand in the Ready or Not tutorial level due to a bug. In fact, the objective prompt appears too early and you will have been trying to use it on the wrong door – like I did.
Simply go through the first door and use the Optiwand on the second door. Be careful, though, an enemy is waiting behind it.
