Sony has announced that an update to begin rolling out “over the coming weeks” will make it possible for PS5 players to join Discord voice chats directly from their PS5.

In a post on X, Sony wrote: “You’ll soon be able to join Discord voice chats from your PS5… The update will roll out gradually over the coming weeks, starting with players in Japan/Asia, followed by Europe, Australia/New Zealand, and the Middle East, and finally the Americas.”

The company did specify when exactly the rollout would begin.

The update means that PS5 players no longer have to start Discord voice chats on the PC or mobile apps. Instead, it can be done natively from the PS5’s home screen.

On the official PlayStation blog post, Sony said: “Since we first introduced Discord voice chat on PS5, players have joined a Discord voice chat on PS5 more than 290 million times to hang out with friends in Discord voice channels while gaming.”

Before you can join Discord voice chats on your PlayStation 5, you must make sure that your PSN and Discord accounts are linked.

Sony also provided instructions on how to join Discord chats from your PS5. “To start, select the Discord tab in Game Base within the PS5 Control Center and choose the Discord server or DM group you’d like to join. Then, select your preferred voice channel,” the company explained.

While it has been possible to voice chat with Discord on PS5 for sometime, the new update makes things even easier and will be great for those that use crossplay to enjoy multiplayer games with their friends on PC.

Sony also announced that Profile Share options are being added to the PS5 and PlayStation app to allow PSN users to share their profile with friends.
