It’s been almost two years since the PS5 was released. And people are still struggling to get their hands on them. But Sony appear to planning the launch of a revamped console – the PS5 Pro or Slim.

This rumor comes courtesy of @Zuby_Tech on Twitter (and was picked up by PlayStation Universe). In a since deleted tweet, the tech enthusiast claimed that Sony has struck a deal with TSMC and AMD for a 6nm manufacturing process for new hardware.

Redesigned PS5 models have been rumored since the original console arrived in November 2020. And the ongoing supply chain issues have only fuelled this speculation.

Many players remain desperate to purchase the now current-gen Sony console. However, new hardware could be the solution to those woes if Sony is able to manufacture the machines in a way that circumvents existing supply problems.

New PS5s are expected to arrive at some point, and slimmed-down or more powerful versions are well-within the realms of possibility. After all, there is historical precedent for this.

PS5 Pro Release Date

Unfortunately, Sony is yet to confirm anything official. And whatever Sony do next with the PS5, most people will simply hope that it helps ease the console’s long-running supply problems.

Exactly when the PS5 Pro or PS5 Slim will be released remains to be seen. But the new iterations probably aren’t too far away.

Despite there being no confirmed release date for the PS5 Pro or PS5 Slim, previous reports suggest a 2023/2024 launch window is likely.

That’s according to Polish website PPE. They reported earlier this year from a TCL launch event, where the company were debuting its new line-up of TVs. As part of a presentation, TCL included a slide that included mentions of PS5 Pro and new Xbox Series consoles.

A vague 2023/2024 release date is visible on the slide. Some tech specs are also included:

  • 2160p/60-120 render
  • UHD-8k/60-120 output
  • RX7700XT GPU

Despite these leaks, one thing is clear. If supply and availability issues continue after the launch of new versions, it will only add to frustrations. At this point, most people would settle for being able to buy the original PS5.
