This guide answers “what is Terastallizing?” and explains how to Terastallize in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are here and their arrival heralds the beginning of the ninth generation of Pokémon video games.
For players who’ve enjoyed the games since the very beginning, it’s probably hard to believe we’re now nine generations into the series. And after so many years, it’s difficult to imagine how the series will innovate next.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet move the franchise forward in a number of key ways. However, they have met some criticism.
The new games take place in the Paldea region – which is based on the Iberian Penninsula. As always, we’re introduced to a swathe of unfamiliar Paldean Pokémon and fresh places to visit. All this is wrapped up in a new-look open world that has been both praised and criticised.
While the world of Scarlet and Violet is certainly the most ‘open’ to date, their graphics, performance, and general bugginess has disappointed fans.
Still, if you can get past those setbacks, there’s still a fun Pokémon experience to be had. And it’s one that introduces a number of new features.
One such feature is Terastallizing. Like Mega Evolutions and Dynamaxing before it, Terastallizing is a gimmick to expand the variety of existing Pokémon.
But with Terastallizing being brand-new to Scarlet and Violet, many fans are asking what it is and how it works.
So, let’s explain what is Terastallizing and how to Terastallize in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet…
What is Terastallizing in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?
Terastallizing is unique to the Paldea region. It apparently stems from the Terestal energy in the ground.
As a result, players haven’t encountered it in any previous Pokémon games. And that’s left them with a lot of questions.
So, what is Terastallizing in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet? Terastallizing is the ability Paldean Pokémon have to crystallize themselves. Once Terastallized, moves of a Pokémon’s specific ‘Tera Type’ are buffed making them more powerful.
A Pokémon’s Tera Type is usually the same as their main type. However, in some cases it’s an entirely different type.
You can only Terastallize a Pokémon once before you needing to visiting a Pokémon Center to recharge. This means it’s crucial to use this ability when it counts most.
