Red Dead Redemption 2 players can finally experience the game with DualSense controller support, including features like adaptive triggers.

It might not feel like it but Red Dead Redemption 2 came out almost six years ago in 2018. Since then, we’ve moved into a new console generation with the PS5 and Xbox Series X. PlayStation players have been crying out for a PS5 Red Dead 2 upgrade ever since. However, DualSense controller support has always been at the top of the requested features list.

The DualSense is Sony’s revolutionary controller for the PlayStation 5. When it debuted in 2020, we called it a “gigantic leap forward” from anything that came before it.

DualSense controller and PS5

The DualSense controller boasts features like adaptive triggers and haptic feedback that create a deeper sense of immersion. For example, when drawing a bow the adaptive triggers resist your input to simulate the tension of the bowstring. This effect can be tailored by developers depending on what tools or weapons are being used in a game.

Red Dead Redemption 2 has quite the arsenal of Old West era weapons, from revolvers to lever action rifles. Most of the weapons in the game require two trigger inputs to fire: one to cock the hammer or cocking handle, and a second to shoot. As such, players have been keen to experience these guns with the DualSense controller.

Red Dead Redemption 2 DualSense Support

Red Dead Redemption 2 DualSense support does not come from an official patch released by Rockstar. Instead, it is made possible by one dedicated player’s mod.

This means that to enjoy DualSense features like adaptive triggers on Red Dead 2, you must own and play the game on PC. As is often the case, it’s come down to the community to deliver a much requested feature.

The mod, “RDR2 – DSX”, comes from creator Shtivi. Using the DSX software, the mod includes “various adaptive triggers for guns, throwables, bow, lasso, fishing, melee combat” and more, as well as health, stamina, and Dead Eye RGB indication.

Shtivi promises that “this mod is going to change RDR2 forever” for players who use it.

With this mod, players can finally experience Red Dead Redemption 2 with DualSense support. Unfortunately, PS5-only players are still out in the cold on this one. Hopefully Rockstar will release an official PS5 upgrade in the near future.
