Activision has released the official patch notes for Season 4 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III (MW3) and Warzone, which kicked off on May 29th.

The new season promises some significant tweaks and additions to both games. Most notably, in Warzone, the player count for battle royale on Urzikstan has been increased from 100 to 120. New gulag variants have also been added, as well as the new Foresight killstreak and unlimited tac-sprint boots.

Multiplayer has received two brand new 6v6 maps – Tokyo and Paris. A third new map, called Incline, will be released in-season.

The latest seasonal update brings new killstreaks to multiplayer:

  • Loitering Munition
  • Missile Drone
  • I.M.S
  • DNA Bomb

A total of six new game modes will also be added, with three coming immediately and three arriving later:

  • Demolition
  • Hyper Cranked
  • Cache
  • Mutation (in-season)
  • Headshots Only (in-season)
  • Havoc (in-season)

The new season includes four new weapons. Players new and old will likely be most interested in the returning Kar98k, which was a fan-favourite in the original Warzone. The marksman rifle is described as “powerful and accurate”.

Modern Warfare Zombies (MWZ) has been left out in the cold once again – its only notable piece of new content arrives mid-season.

Players will be able to “investigate numerous and violent anomalies” called Unstable Rifts. Once inside a rift, “a large horde of zombies and other grotesque horrors attempt to assault you almost immediately, and intense waves of enemies continuously swarm you until the hordes are slain, or your team is overwhelmed.”

With Black Ops 6 on the horizon, it’s clear that MWZ has become an afterthought (if it wasn’t already). Fans have been clamouring for exciting new content since the mode debuted, but it has so far failed to materialise.
