The Pokémon-like survival game Palworld has officially exceeded 1 million concurrent players on Steam. It is also the most-played title on Steam at the time of writing.

Having launched just two days ago on 19 January in Early Access, Palworld has received an exceptional level of interest from gamers.

It blends cute and loveable creatures akin to Pokémon with survival mechanics and guns. Yes – guns. The game can be played solo or online.

In Palworld, created by Japanese developer Pocket Pair, players can capture and battle more than 100 “Pals”. You can also use the animals for food and labour.

Confirming the incredible milestone, developer Pocket Pair posted to X (formerly Twitter): “The number of Steam users currently playing #Palworld has exceeded 1 million!!”

The company also announced that this is the “2nd highest in the history of paid games on Steam!”

This means that a largely unknown early access game on Steam has more players than juggernaut titles including Call of Duty, Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy, Baldur’s Gate III, and Grand Theft Auto V.

In addition to surpassing one million concurrent players, Pocket Pair has confirmed that Palworld sold three million copies in just 40 hours.

Pocket Pair said “Thank you everyone for playing Palworld! We are so overwhelmed but also encouraged by this incredible accomplishment!”
