Christopher Nolan’s long-awaited Oppenheimer is here at last. After months of ever-growing hype, moviegoers are finally setting their eyes on the filmmaker’s epic biographical thriller. It tells the story of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the creator and “father” of the atomic bomb. It also explores his personal life and intimate relationships, and you may have heard rumours of a 15 minute sex scene in Oppenheimer.
Talk of this supposed scene have appeared on social media amid endless memes and speculation regarding the film. With a three-hour runtime, there would certainly be time to fit in a lengthy love scene (pun NOT intended).
However, some film fans were surprised to hear that such a scene would be included in the movie. After all, Oppenheimer deals with complex themes, as well as political espionage, physics, and quantum mechanics.
But what is reported to happen in this 15-minute scene? Apparently, it contains explicit intercourse and nudity featuring both Cillian Murphy’s and Florench Pugh’s characters.
Unfortunately, discussion surrounding the scene has been enough to put some people off going to see Oppenheimer in theatres. These rumours have spread like wildfire on social media, with many taking them at face value and assuming their legitimacy. But is the scene actually real?
Is there a 15 minute scene in Oppenheimer?
There is no 15-minute sex scene in Oppenheimer.
While the film does cover Oppenheimer’s romantic relationships, there are only a couple of brief sex scenes and a few instances of nudity.
Rumours of the scene appear to have come from a now deleted tweet by @MovieGuyBrian (which can be seen in this TikTok video). The tweet stated: “#Oppenheimer was fine. Classic Nolan use of riveting imagery and grand scale to impress general audiences. Among many problems with this disappointing film is the 15-minute long, full penetration sex sequence between Murphy and Pugh. Beyond unnecessary.”
This eventually went viral across various social media platforms, including TikTok. Social media users were quick to express their shock and disgust at the decision to include such a scene and questioned its authenticity.
However, we can confirm that the scene is not real. So, there is absolutely no reason to be dissuaded from seeing Oppenheimer for this reason.
