Only Up! is a unique climbing game that has proven itself to be a viral hit. Videos of it are currently all over TikTok and YouTube, and it’s incredibly popular with streamers. That’s because players have to climb a series of weird and wonderful structures and objects to get high above the clouds. But what happens when you reach the very top? Does the Only Up game have an ending?
While this 3D platformer only launched on 24 May 2023, it has already racked up millions of views online (and has attracted some controversy). It has generated such incredible interest thanks to its risky and heart-pounding gameplay. Sure – all you do is climb and jump. But if you fall, it’s a near-guaranteed game over. And if you’ve spent hours scaling the game’s bizarre structures, there’s nothing worse.
In Only Up!, you play as Jackie. Born into poverty, Jackie is a teenager with big dreams of a better future. As part of Only Up!‘s “crazy” world, Jackie begins a new life when he starts to climb to incredible heights.
With your primary aim in Only Up! being to climb as high as possible, players may wonder what awaits them above the clouds. So, how does Only Up! end?
Only Up game ending: What happens?
Only Up! ends when you go through a door far above the clouds and encounter a black hole.
You reach the door after climbing a metal staircase against a blue wall. As you approach the black hole, the moon is visible in the distance and there is a satellite overhead. After entering the black hole, you stand on a circular platform which takes you to the edge of the Earth’s atmosphere.
The platform stops once you reach a metallic platform made up of two levels. After running up a ramp and crossing a bridge, you will see floating text reading “Congratulations”. Immediately after this, you will see more text stating your total play time.
At the end of the bridge is a floating astronaut and a plane-like spacecraft. A cutscene then plays and the astronaut speaks to Jackie.
The astronaut says: “Greetings dear friend. You have come a long way. Not many have made it here. Now there are no obstacles in your way. In your life, there will be losses and wins but now you are independent and strong. As a reward, you get a spaceship. Now you are the pilot of your life. You still have a lot to learn, but now you can do what you want and thrive wherever you want, open up new worlds and heights.”
Jackie is then seen wearing an astronaut suit and is sat inside the spaceship. The astronaut continues: “Congratulations, you’ve taken a small step in this game but it’s a giant step for your life. Good luck and patience in your future adventures and may the force be with you.”
Jackie is then seen flying away in the spaceship as the camera pans up to the satellite above. The text “Only Up!” and “The End” appear as the screen fades to black.
