To the disappointment of trophy hunters everywhere, it appears there will be no platinum trophy in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III (MW3) on PS5. This news comes after the game’s full trophy list appeared on PS5 consoles, where it is inexplicably listed as an add-on for last year’s Modern Warfare II.
Without a platinum trophy for player’s to earn, MW3‘s most valuable awards are five gold trophies. The omission of the coveted platinum will only add to accusations from some gamers that this year’s instalment is merely ‘DLC’ for 2022’s title.
DLC for PS5 games typically appears as a sub-category under their parent titles. Downloadable content also lacks platinums, which can usually only be earned in the main game.
The reason for MW3 missing a platinum trophy is unknown. It is being marketed as a full-price game, complete with its own campaign, multiplayer, and Zombies modes.
MW3‘s campaign early access is set to commence on 2nd November. That means players will be able to earn trophies without the ability to unlock a platinum. Additionally, if one isn’t patched into Modern Warfare III, that would make it the first Call of Duty game on PS5 to launch without a platinum.
Does MW3 have a platinum trophy on PS4?
Despite the PS5 version of MW3 missing its platinum trophy, there is a platinum available in the PS4 version.
This was confirmed on X (formerly known as Twitter) by trophy and achievement guide website PowerPyx. They wrote: “COD Modern Warfare 3 on PS5 doesn’t have a Platinum trophy, it’s a DLC list for Modern Warfare 2. Only the PS4 version has a standalone list and Platinum trophy.”
The discrepancy between the two versions is highly unusual for a game due for release on both PS4 and PS5.
How have fans reacted?
Understandably, fans on X are voicing their frustration. “This is just stupid £70 for #MW3 and it doesn’t even have it’s own trophy list on PS5 no platinum and it’s listed into dlc for MW2 why?”, wrote @Fallout7295. Similarly, @JayGotemCoach said: “How tf does mw3 not have a platinum trophy”.
@alvin_balay was also disappointed, posting: “NO, MW3 Platinum Big L”. Others were simply confused by the news and wanted answers. While tweeting at the official PlayStation, Call of Duty, and Activision accounts, @AustinQuinlan asked: “what are we doing? Why does MW3 on the PS4 get a platinum and the PS5 version is a dlc list… Hello?”.
Activision has yet to comment on the missing platinum and it is unknown whether one will be added to the game. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is set to launch on 10th November 2023 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
