Fresh details about Nintendo’s long-rumoured Switch 2 have emerged courtesy of an exclusive report from Spanish video game website Vandal. The publication’s Rubén Mercado has apparently received the information from sources at peripherals manufacturers.
The Joy-Con controllers for the Switch 2 will reportedly connect to the console magnetically. On the current console, they slide on via a rail on each side of the device. If true, this brings into question whether existing Joy-Cons will be compatible with Nintendo’s next-gen console.
In the past, Vandal shared correct details about the Switch OLED ahead of its release.
The new report claims that this information comes from those who have been able to “touch” the new console. They say that the new hardware will be larger than the current Switch but smaller than the Steam Deck.
While existing Joy-Cons may not be compatible with the Switch 2, the Pro controller is believed to work on the upcoming device.
It is believed that the Switch 2 will support games for the current Switch, the report continues.
When it comes to a release date, the publication speculates that Nintendo’s latest console will be available at the beginning of 2025 when it has a “more powerful catalogue” behind it.
