Battlefield 2042 is one of the most high-profile video game disasters in recent history. After months of anticipation, it launched as a buggy mess and saw its player count drop rapidly over the following months. Now it appears EA are planning the next Battlefield game. And it will feature a single-player campaign.

One main source of disappointment for Battlefield 2042 players was its lack of single-player campaign. However, it came as no surprise. For years, EA had been actively steering towards multiplayer titles instead.

Despite a controversial tweet last week that suggests otherwise, the company has changed course. For the first time in years, they are committed to releasing a number of titles that include a single-player mode. And that includes the next Battlefield, which a new job listing suggests is in development at EA’s Battlefield Seattle Studio.

Single-Player Campaign is Coming to Next Battlefield Game

Battlefield Seattle Studio is headed up by Halo co-creator Marcus Lehto. The studio is looking to add a new, experienced Design Director to their team.

According to the job listing, the studio will produce new stories in the Battlefield universe.

Battlefield Seattle is focused on building rich, exciting stories with memorable characters and powerful experiences all in the Battlefield universe.

Most telling, however, is the direct reference to building a single-player campaign for the next Battlefield game.

Your job is to embrace the core tenets of the Battlefield franchise and make sure they are woven through all layers of a masterfully designed single player campaign. You will build the studio’s design team and culture and build an amazing campaign from concept through release.

Battlefield Seattle are looking for someone with considerable experience. The job listing asks for “10+ years experience as a Director Level or large-team leadership level.”

In a good sign for fans, the advert specifies that the Design Director must have “Passion and understanding of single player campaigns and how to innovate within that space.”

DICE Will Continue To Work On The Series

While EA have setup this new studio, it doesn’t mean long-time Battlefield developer DICE are stepping away.

Just last month, DICE’s new general manager confirmed the studio is “only focussing on Battlefield”, leaving no time for other projects like Mirror’s Edge.

The new Battlefield Seattle job listing indicates the two studios will be working together on the next Battlefield game. The Design Director will “Navigate decision-making between multiple partner studios while leading a team during all phases of a project.”

With the next game in the series in development, reports were swirling that the Battlefield 2042 team was down to a “skeleton crew”. In response, EA said: “This is untrue… We are committed to the future of Battlefield 2042.”
