Warner Bros. Games have officially confirmed a new platform brawler similar to Super Smash Bros. Rumours about the game had been circulating for a couple of months. But we finally know it’s real and what it looks like. So, what do we know about the new Warner Bros fighting game so far?
What is Warner Bros fighting game called?
It’s called MultiVersus. I’ve already seen a few people online refer to it as ‘Multiverse’, but that isn’t correct. Maybe it’s all the Spider-Man: No Way Home multiverse chatter that’s got the word ingrained in people’s minds.
The reason for the name is fairly obvious. MultiVersus is a crossover fighting game featuring characters from popular Warner Bros. franchises. So, it’s a ‘multiverse’ of iconic characters who battle each other – simple.
Is MultiVersus like Super Smash Bros?
A first-look MultiVersus trailer is available on YouTube. And from that trailer, it’s clear to see that the game takes significant inspiration from Super Smash Bros and will feature similar gameplay. If you’re asking is MultiVersus better than Super Smash Bros, that will likely come down to personal preference and which collection of characters you prefer.
MultiVersus‘s primary mode is action-packed 2v2, but there will also be a 4-player free-for-all mode. And characters will have special abilities – such as Superman’s laser vision and Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth. To mix things up, you’ll also be able to customise character perk loadouts.
Is MultiVersus free to play?
MultiVersus is free-to-play. That means you’ll be able to download and play it at no cost, but there will be lots of in-game purchases – presumably including things like skins and emotes. We also know Warner Bros Games are planning seasonal battle passes.
What characters are in Warner Bros fighting game?
While we don’t know the entire roster, we caught a glimpse at some of the MultiVersus characters. They are:
- Batman (Kevin Conroy)
- Superman (George Newbern)
- Wonder Woman (Abby Trott)
- Harvey Quinn (Tara Strong)
- Shaggy (Matthew Lillard)
- Bugs Bunny (Eric Bauza)
- Arya Stark (Maisie Williams)
- Tom and Jerry (Eric Bauza)
- Jake the Dog (John DiMaggio)
- Finn the Human (Jeremy Shada)
- Steven Universe (Daniel DiVenere)
- Garnet (Estelle)
- Reindog (Andrew Frankel)
You’ll likely recognise most of those names. Although you’re probably wondering, “Who is Reigndog?” Reindog is a new, original character made specifically for MultiVersus. As you might have noticed, characters will be voiced by their original voice actors.
What consoles is MultiVersus available on?
MultiVersus will be released for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC (via Steam).
Is MultiVersus cross play?
Yes – MultiVersus will include cross play, as well as cross progression. So you’ll be able to fight it out with your friends no matter their choice of gaming hardware.
Warner Bros fighting game release date
The MultiVersus release date is currently set for 2022. We don’t know anything more specific than that, though. Once we hear a more concrete date, we’ll be sure to share it.
