Star Wars Jedi: Survivor only came out last week but it seems another video game in the popular sci-fi franchise is in the works. Back in 2006, developer Petroglyph Games produced one of the most underrated Star Wars games in history: Star Wars: Empire at War. A real-time strategy game, Empire at War allowed players to command Rebellion or Imperial forces in space and land battles. The new game will apparently be similar to the classic title.

Josh West, a writer over at GamesRadar+, included Empire at War in his list of top 10 Star Wars games last week. After mentioning his inclusion of the game on Twitter, Andy Robinson, an editor at VGC, responded. He said, “I imagine you won’t have to wait much longer for a Star Wars RTS from a big-name developer…”

To add to the speculation, Robinson explained that the game he was talking about “hasn’t been announced”. This means that it isn’t the Star Wars strategy game currently in the works at Respawn Entertainment and Bit Reactor.

On Reddit, a fan speculated that Respawn and Bit Reactor’s title will be “an XCOM style game and not a RTS”. The unannounced game will thus be the next Star Wars real-time strategy experience that fans can look forward to.

Looking back on Empire at War, one Reddit user remarked that “Empire at War was really good”. Another said that the news was “great to hear” and that they “hope it’s similar to EAW with a galactic campaign + battles”.

Star Wars: Empire at War was released in 2006. The game allows players to command ground and space forces in order to conquer the galaxy. Players can choose to play as either the Rebel Alliance or the Galactic Empire and must manage their resources, build up their armies, and battle for control of planets and star systems.

The game features iconic characters and vehicles from the Star Wars franchise, as well as an original storyline that takes place between the events of Episode III and Episode IV. In addition to the single-player campaign, Empire at War also includes a multiplayer mode that allows players to compete against each other online.

The new game will presumably be a spiritual successor to the 2006 title and will likely modernise the features that made Empire at War a critical success.
